Wide receiver DJ Woods committed to us today over offers from the SEC (Kentucky), Big 10 (Indiana), Toledo, and Tulane.

The coaching staff is getting it done on the recruiting trail.

While there is (finally) a slow down for UMass commits, take a look at who is dominating the state of Connecticut thus far for 2013...

Hint: It's NOT the state university down there.

How do the UMass commits compare to the other programs in the Northeast...

Looks like we are right on par... I'd like to see where Rutgers is at as well.

Ask and you shall receive:

Rutgers:
Chris Laviano QB- ESPN 4 Star/Rivals 3 Star
Myles Nash ATH- ESPN 4 Star/Rivals 3 Star
Justin Goodwin ATH- ESPN & Rivals 3 Star
T.J. Taylor ATH- ESPN 3 Star/Rivals 2 Star
Dontea Ayres RB- ESPN & Rivals 3 Star
Nick Internicola OLB-ESPN & Rivals 3 Star
John Tsimis WR- ESPN 3 Star/Rivals 2 Star
Anthony Cioffi ATH- ESPN & Rivals 3 Star
Nick Arcidiacono TE- ESPN 3 Star/Rivals 2 Star
Taylor Marini TE- ESPN & Rivals 3 Star
Eric Wiafe DE- ESPN 2 Star/Rivals 3 Star
Josh Klecko DT- ESPN NR/Rivals 2 Star
Sebastian Joseph DE-ESPN & Rivals NR
Kemoko Turay DE-ESPN & Rivals NR

By my calculations Rutgers appears to be doing a bit better than the other 4 teams.

WOW! Great pickup. ESPN has him as a 3 star recruit and the #51 ILB in the country. Here is a great story where he talks about his commitment. Really good stuff, especially the part where his parents really were impressed.

I think this coaching staff has been very aggressive and early on some under the radar kids who may be 2-3 star rated now (after their junior year) but turn out to be 4 star players by the time their senior high school season is done. I wouldn't be shocked at all if we land a 4-star kid THIS year, as a matter of fact I'll bet you a cold beer it happens.

Understand the thought process.......but as a new program that doesn't get 4 star players the evaluators will be less likely to upgrade a 2 or 3 to a 4 because of where they are going. They have long term relationships with established schools and won't want to ruffle feathers and cause problems for schools that "lose" 4 star recruits to a new program.
Opt for anything from Wandering Star Craft Brewery in Pittsfield.

The way I envision it I'm thinking it will be one of these kids who we have been on for months that hasn't verbally committed yet. A great senior year and ratings upgrade but since we've been on him for so long we get him come signing day.

Sure, as long as specific schools' fan base subscriptions to Rivals, Scout, etc. have no impact on the #s of stars doled out. Or, regional or school-specific subscription-compensated columnists don't upgrade or downgrade prospective recruits' rankings based on their own school or personal interests. In other words, view stars with caution once it gets past 5 stars and some higher rated 4 stars. Football's a bit different than hoops recruiting.

Random Twitter post:

"Seems like UMass is getting more commits than BC and they are owning the in-state battle as well"

I LOVE IT!
