| I also wonder if Springfield hosting the MAC b-ball conference this year is purely coincidental or if this may be a prelude to UMASS joning them at some point down the road. |

That's actually the MAAC, not the MAC. There's no chance we join it. Two totally different entities. _________________ Muck Fax Page |

| The MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) is mostly smaller northeastern Catholic schools like Iona, Fairfield, Siena, St. Peter's, etc., and not to be confused with that Midwest-centric conference that we're joining for football. Still don't know why Springfield is hosting the MAAC tournament instead of Albany. I guess they gave them an offer they couldn't refuse. It might actually be a pretty good take; Iona is very good. |

I respect what Butler has done, but I don't trust it to last. |
Good under Barry Collier, Todd Lickliter and Thad Matta before Brad Stevens. Not Final Four good, but good. |

Iona would offer an instant rivalry with Fordham and another reason for Metro NYC to care about the A10. Fairfield also to a lesser extent, but they would also open up the gold coast of southern CT. Either school is a good pickup, IMO.
The other thing to keep in mind is the MAAC commissioner is Rich Ensor -- who once taught in the Sport Management dept. at UMass. That angle might mean absolutely nothing, or it could mean there's a relationship there that UMass doesn't want to endanger. |

The MAAC is a shitty conference that happens to have two or three good teams this year. In general, though, there is little in the way of serious institutional investment at those places and leaving the A10 for the MAAC would be a serious demotion.
I would love to see Butler in the A10. Not only are the good and likely to remain good under Stevens (who really does seem committed to the school for the long-term) but they provide the league with a new market in Indianapolis. Losing Temple is obviously a major blow, but we still have two other teams in Philly, so we're not losing that media market altogether. Indy isn't a huge market but it does expand the conference footprint into a great state for HS hoops and give us additional exposure as a program (who knows? Maybe the next Tony Barbee is waiting in the wings. He was from Indy, right?). _________________ Muck Fax Page |

| Fordham would be a better fit in the Patriot League, academically as well as athletically. |

Fordham was in the patriot league back in the 90's and they would be a good fit there... If the a10 were to disband it would probably when the big east catholic basketball schools leave and form a new conference. Those schools, St johns, providence, gtown, seton hall etc would probably convince some a10 schools to leave...
Eastern Athletic Conference
UMass, Georgetown, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, Marquette, DePaul, Xavier, Dayton, St. Louis,
For starters.....
Boy that would really piss off Pitino |

| The last thing I want is another small catholic school in the A10. I want more public schools like us. The A10's world ends when big east splits into football and basketball. Basketball schools raid the A10. |

I agree. VCU would be a good choice. |
