| DEM- There is a reason some of my friends took 9 years to leave this town. Happy valley is a great moniker. Hah. Thanks for posting. |

I hate to be a downer on this subject, but this list gets me every time.
Amherst is a great little town, don't get me wrong. But the town's attitude toward UMass is ridiculous, and from a college-experience standpoint, Amherst isn't even close to places like: Ann Arbor, Madison, Bloomington, Charlottesville.
In those places, the town recognizes and embraces the University's impact on the community, and actually treats the students with a decent amount of respect. In Amherst, they write up laws aimed at the UMass students, and spend inordinate amounts of time and money on law enforcement.
Amherst townspeople like to think of themselves as an Amherst College town, when in reality the town would barely exist without UMass. |

You are 100% right, which is why being at the top of this list is evey more amazing. Beyond all of their efforts to put the university down and deny that it is even located there, the school and everyone associated with it still dominate. That is huge. _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

| Having attended UMass as an undergrad and then having an opportunity to attend U of M in Ann Arbor, I agree with the above comments. Amherst folk seem to view the university as "outsiders" whereas the Ann Arbor folk embrace UMich. (Much bigger fan of UMass hoops than Michigan, though). |

Also listed here as one of top 10 for adults living in college towns. |
Never heard of "East Village" in Amherst. Pretty terrible writing. _________________ Ball so hard |
