| If this happens, this will have significant implications for the MAC and the A-10. At this point with all of the rumors and potential moves being reported we just have to chill and see how things shake out. I can't expend any more energy on worrying about it. I just wish I had more confidence in our administration to be pro-active and find the best match for us. Wake me up when basketball starts. |

Supposedly, they will be voting on this Sunday. I have a hard time believing it's that simple. Temple would be crazy to pay a $2.5 million exit fee to the MAC plus whatever huge entry fee the Big East wants, only to find out next week that they need a new football affiliation because all the Big East teams left for the Big 12 and ACC. First there's going to need to be a commitment from the remaining Big East members in the form of a much larger exit fee. Maybe what's happening here is the Big East Catholics have already committed to admitting Temple provided the remaining football schools vote in the larger exit fee. I'd be surprised if Temple was enough incentive for them to do that just yet. My suspicion is that this story was leaked by the basketball side and they're displaying their usual blindness to reality. We'll see.
If Temple did leave, the immediate problem for us is that the MAC can tear up our contract and replace it with an agreement that lasts as few as 2 years. Either Temple or UMass leaving triggers that clause for the other member. Then we become an independent. The reason the MAC would do that is if they can't find another team they'd want as a 14th member. They were not happy with the 13 member setup. Obviously, Temple leaving would also be a big blow to the A10. I'll be surprised if it happens by Monday though. |

Could look at this as a way of getting out of the MAC with no exit fee. I wouldn't really want to see UMass in the MAC if Temple is not there. Maybe Bob Kraft can convince the Big East to give us another look now that the landscape has changed. Otherwise maybe we can settle into Conference USA if they end up losing a few teams to the Big East. |

Leaving the MAC without ever playing a game, or after two years (as Jackman wrote), now that would be strange, although after last night, I guess there is nothing that is not on the table. _________________ "Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. | If you use last night as some point of reference than they don't even belong in the Patriot League. |

| Monday has officially come and gone, and reportedly no vote was ever taken on Temple. I don't think anything is going to happen there until the SEC lays down the 14th domino and the ACC and/or Big 12 decide how to react to it. There's no reason for anyone but USF to commit to the Big East right now. |

| The BE is a disaster. Even if they add teams, there will be many who will want to leave if the ACC, Big 12, SEC ask. There is no stability there. Back in the 80's Paterno wanted an all east football conference but the BE basketball powers nixed that idea. Now Penn State is in a great conference and the Eastern schools are scrambling once again. The BE spent too much time keeping schools out of their conference rather than building an all sports conference that would be the envy of the rest of the country. The only hope for the BE football schools is to break away and start from scratch. But it may be too late for that now that Syracuse and Pitt are gone. |

And that's the problem. The ACC has heavily hinted that they will go to 16. The keys are the Big 12. The ACC is waiting on ND, who is waiting on the Big East. So if the Big East took 2-3 Big East schools (UL/WVU), ND will start giving serious thought to the ACC. Because they WANT the Big East to survive. But if it loses UL/WVU to B12, TCU opts to remain then in MWC, then it's Uconn, Rutgers, Cincy and USF. There are no combinations of replacements that will make ND feel comfortable. Temple? UCF? SMU? ECU? Air Force is out with a single loss, NAvy out without Air Force in.
So at this point, it's not a stretch for ND to goto the ACC (over B10). ACC is high on UConn, but waiting on ND. If ND passes, ACC very likely to add Uconn and Rutgers for the final kill of the Big East.
Cincy and USF head back to CUSA, and A10 schools like Xavier, St. Louis, Richmond, Dayton get on the list for the 8-10 spots in a non-football Big East.
These things can happen. Even if just UL leaves for the B12, TCU might opt for the MWC. Sorry, but Uconn, Rutgers, WVU, Cincy, USF, UCF, SMU, Houston, ECU, Memphis, Temple, etc aren't going to lock up a BCS bid when you would have BSU and TCU together in the MWC, beating down the door. BCS more likely to give the bid to MWC rather than by waiver, give a 7th AQ. _________________ Welcome Back DK!

Updates:
* Temple will likely be invited by Monday.
* Rationale is again, that the Big East needs 2 more all-sports members to retain FBS status. UCF makes sense with USF in, Temple due to proximity to other BE schools (all-sports) and basketball success.
* Boise St., Air Force, Navy are still the top football-only schools on the wishlist.
* Navy will onyl join if exit fees are nearly doubled.
* BE schools want 6 schools added before they agree to exit fee hike.
* Army is not interested. 0%.
* SMU/Houston are in mix.
* Goal is 12 with current 6 +
2 = UCF, Temple for all sports
3 = Navy, Air Force, Boise St.
1 = either Houston or SMU for all-sports
* If Boise St. passes, BOTH Texas schools in to get to 12 (18 all sports)
* Air Force likely in if Navy in, might be in without Navy.
* If somehow Air Force and Navy passed, Big East would expand to 10.
* If one passes, there is an outside shot that ECU would be accepted for football-only (already applied) to get to 12.
* If UL/WVU leave for Big 12, and BE at 12, not a problem as they'd be at 10.
* If UL/WVU leave and conference was at 10, would likely remain at 8, with expected drop of bCS AQ
* CUSA exit fees are $7 million plus forfeiture of TV revenue, meaning a total of about $10 million with no income for 2012.
* Big East TV contracts pay under $7 million per year for football schools, but expected to go up with new TV contract (which will still be high in comparison to current contract, but less than the 1.5 billion ESPN offered already).
* UMass upgraded a few years too late. If they were FBS and positioned well with success, Big East would look at them at least.
* Gotta feel for ECU if passed over again. _________________ Welcome Back DK!

Quinn what have you heard about Army. The is one poster on the ncaabs, who says that if both Navy and Air Force join the Big East, there is a change Army would consider the MAC football-only. It would be the best Temple replacement. _________________ Collection of Sports links |

Army is out. 100% committed to being indy. I dont' mean 99.9%, I mean there is 0% change Army changes their stance. They gave all the thought, told the Big East "no, no matter what Navy/AF do" and WANT to remain solo after such a negative experience in CUSA (where 5-6 members of the Big East in 2013 would have been a part of CUSA during army's time there). _________________ Welcome Back DK!
