| Sam Cassell jr. was just ruled ineligible by the NCAA to play for the University of Maryland..However he is eligible to play in the A-10...he went to Notre Dame prep..any chance Kellog and his team will take a look at him...Cassell Jr can absolutely fill it up, with a killer step back, and he gets to the basket really well. |

| You may not have been, but Florida state, south Florida, Pitt, and Maryland were.. Again Norte dame prep is pretty local, but I don't know how our scolly situation is or anything so I was just curious in to if Kellogg would be interested |

you are correct that those schools liked him... and UConn was at one of the games that I watched. Still not a fan. _________________ "....I want to see our program be the UMass I know and love." - DK |

We do need a guard in next year's class. I wonder how much of the interest in him has to do with his name. His dad always seemed a little strange to me, but I don't know why. Maybe the bald look. _________________ Always remember that you are unique, just like everyone else. |

He isn't a 5 star recruit. But he was top 150 on a few sites coming out of high school I believe and a 3/4 star
Coming out of notre dame prep |

How is he as a kid, and a teammate? No one comes before the Brotherhood, not even the son of an NBA All-Star. If he wants to be a member of it, and wants to be a part of the UMass program, then great. If he wants to be Sam Cassel's son, no thanks. I'm not saying he is either way, I don't know, and I'm sure he is good player if Maryland wanted him, but just because your dad was good/motivated, doesn't mean you are.. see Lang, Trey.
Through the DG/TB videos, you see how well DG, who also has to sit out a year, is appraoching it. He is coming in and seeing himself as part of the Brotherhood, accepting his role immediately as TEAMMATE. You can tell he wants to be here. This is important. All the new guys talk about it in these terms, Brotherhood... TB, DG, Isaac Freeman. We must preserve this with good kids who want to be good teammates. |

Are u saying that since he is Sam cassells son he isn't a good teammate? I watched him play in the capital classic and he seemed like a great teammate and got along really well with everyone.. Again that's just one game but I feel like you're very quick to judge |

I don't think he said that. I think he wondered if he was the right fit, that's all. Fair to wonder if a guy who would not be coming to his first choice of schools would be all in with the program.
I also agree that the staff and players can judge that. I'd be excited if he signed on. Kids that are ACC talents are welcome in my eyes, if the staff and players think he's right. |

Right, as I said, I don't know either way.. Was asking the question. If he is on board with what DK has going, then it would be a great addition, I'd say.
What concerns me a little and prompted my wondering was this: http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/blog/eye-on-college-basketball/20183345/former-nba-player-sam-cassell-tees-off-against-the-ncaa
His father has the right to be disappointed but would such a high profile , outspoken father be a distraction? What about if his son is the 4th or 5th best guard on the team(very likely his first season, I'd say) and riding the pine? Will you have Cassel's dad whispering in DK's ear, making headlines and taking the focus off the TEAM? Worth the trouble at that point?
All im wondering. Like you guys though, I trust DK's judgement. |

Before prep school he was tagged as a project who needed to refine his game.
I was surprised to see him get recruited at Maryland.
I have faith that DK can tell whether a kid has what it takes to play PG at a high level.
Only think I would worry about is Sam Sr. barking and whining if jr wasn't being used to his liking. This is a case where I think the NBA dad might be a hindrance more than a help.
But if he can play, and dad can keep his head on coaching his own team, it might work out.
The name factor is going to be hard on the kid no matter where he ends up. Maybe a year to get more academics under his belt and grow as a person will turn out to be a good thing for him.
One other thing is that his family doesn't need him to have a scholarship. They can afford to pay for a semester if we don't have a scholarship to give. _________________ Refuse To Lose!!! |
