Time to start talking about the Dukes. Perhaps my least favorite team in the A10, I wish they'd just leave the league and we'd never have to hear from them again.

And yet.

We've struggled with them a lot in recent years. They are super down this year and have a new coach, but they did give St. Joes a hell of a game in the ir home conference opener on Saturday, before falling late by six or eight. They also lost to Fordham at Fordham by I believe seven. Hopefully, the game at their place last year is still fresh in our minds. I also like that we have a bit longer to prepare for them and that we should be sufficiently prepared and rested. Would love to get out to a big early lead and rest some of our guys for Saturday, since the turn-around time between games is probably our quickest of the season (other than A10 tourney and PR games). We'll only have one day to prep for GW, so it'd be nice to jump on these guys early and get TBerg a bunch of minutes.

I will not be in attendance (though I am heading up for GW) but my two seats are accounted for as always. Gave these to a friend of the old man. I am a bit worried about attendance though, since students aren't back, the opponent is not a name opponent, and many season ticket holders are accustomed to Wednesday games and thus may have other plans on a Thursday. Also think that a lot of people will be coming Saturday and may be reluctant to come to the Bill twice in a 40 hour period if they are travelling from a further distance. Hoping they get 4700.

What I want to know is, who at CBS Sports Network picked this game to televise? I am glad they did though.

I've seen 2 of Duquesne games and half of another. Their PG, Colter, can really play. He's quick and has a scoring knack.

Shut him down and we win comfortably, I think. They have a couple decent returning players, but no one to go nuts about. Colter is dangerous.

I'd have to guess the A10 TV deal requires each member to have at least one televised game. Back in the 80's when we were one of the worst DI programs in the country, they used to put our annual TV game on Super Bowl Sunday.

They have been playing small, but got a 6-9 guy back 2 games ago (Datt) who had to sit out 1st semester. He pulled down 8 rebounds in 15 minutes in their last game. Aside from him, they don't have anyone in their top 7 scorers taller than 6-7. I would hope for TV and Cady to pound the ball inside and maybe Maxie bounces back and gets some hoops.

They shoot more 3's per game than we do, 24.75 vs. 24.33 and at a slightly higher %, .318 to .310. Their two leading scorers are guards, Colter and Johnson (13 points each). They then have a bunch of players in the 5-8 point range.

We are probably more talented, but they are quick and they can score. As Marty said, they have given us problems in the past and we can't take any team lightly. Guard the perimiter, get the ball inside and maybe get their two semi-big men (Marhold and Pantophlet) in foul trouble and we should be OK.

These announcers were so bad, there were atleast a handful of us who sent emails to the school and station. Sadly, none of us that I know of heard back. These were the two rudest announcers I ever heard and they shit all over Umass the entire game. Here's to Chaz and showing those idiots how good we are!

Homer announcers are everywhere, and I'm very surprised when I hear "home" team announcers who aren't quite biased.

But I'll never forget that broadcast last year. The lead p-b-p guy was just a normal homer. The two sidekicks should never be behind a microphone. It was so embarrassing. I might try to find their feed this time around just to see if they are still there and if anything has changed.

I agree. Real bad. I think they were a couple of students.

I enjoy homer announcers, especially for my own team, but I can't support the action of anyone who needlessly takes shots at opposing players. There is a huge difference for pointing something out and then making it the main point of your commentary during a game (I don't think it was warranted either).

We barely beat them at home last year in the a10 quarterfinals. One of JYD's best games.

Payback can be a sweet thing, especially as they are coming to Mullins this year.

UMass -Duquesne always reminds me of the Alex Eldridge - Norm Nixon match-up in the Springfield Civic Center 1/11/75. Cool
