Why is everyone so bent on playing Kentucky?? What about so many other schools or schools on the so called bubble of the NCAA Is it just the old Umass coach vs the new one?? I get out putting Kentucky on our schedule will boost our RPI but I'd rather play a Northwestern, Minnesota, Arizona, Florida, or St. John's.
As much as we will be in the hunt of 68...I just don't think we are on Kentucky's level.

^Was UMass on the same level as Kansas in 08, Syracuse twice in 07, and Ucon in 04? No. Yet all those were wins. You play up to see if your team can rise to the occasion. I'm not hell bent of UMass playing Kentucky, I just think it would be a great draw, and I can't see any Kentucky recruit saying, "Sorry coach, you lost to UMass, I'm going to Duke."

Some coaches like to play a game in a players backyard. The fact that Nerlens Noel is from Everett may help. Of course they had better play that game (away) in Noel's freshman year.

I really wish the season was starting tomorrow. I can't remember the last time I was this excited/anxious about the start of a new season. It's borderline pathetic. Hopefully lax will take our minds off hoops til the end of the month and then we'll only have 4.5 months til midnight madness (which I really hope they have in some form). Side note: what are off-season dates we can look forward to? Schedule release (which comes anywhere from late Aug to late Sept if I recall correctly) is one, then first practice/midnight madness in mid October, but are there any others? I guess hearing about the one or two games we haven't scheduled would qualify and the possible hiring of Lou Roe would be another. Needless to say, this off-season feels endless and yet I think that because so much enthusiasm remains from this past season's run/so many guys returning, DK or the department should at least do a bit to get the fans excited come September and October. In truth, the Mission 1000 thing would have been a good idea this season, but either way, they should do some promotional activity surrounding season tickets (maybe guaranteeing you seats for the next 2 seasons, since more will hop on bandwagon after 2012-2013 season).

How about making entire games from the 2011-2012 season available via video streaming from the UMass website?

That could only be done for games that were not on TV. Otherwise, the rights are owned by the respective broadcasters.

I don't think Cal has them bought into any certain type of thinking in regards to this. That is why I believe you are way off base.

^ Fair enough. I can understand why DK, Bruiser and Barbee don't want to play each other at all. I can also understand why no one in the "family" would want to play each other during the post-season (and to a lesser extent in a conference game). But I am having a really hard time believing that DK and Bruiser wouldn't want to play Kentucky in a regular season non-conference game.

My idea about Calipari is one of the only explanations for all of this that makes sense to me, even if it is a little far fetched.

Maybe the Barclay Center will try to to steal some of the Meadowlands college hoop business and schedule a doubleheader with Indiana-UMass. Works for us as we get a game in the new A-10 tourney site. Works for Barclay as they get an A-10 team in to do some pre-tourney marketing. Add in Fordham against another national program to fill out the day.

Also we should do a huge business in colleges scheduling games in their players
home markets. Besides Kentucky; Arizona, Florida, Maryland, Syracuse, Missouri jump right out. (Feel free to add on). We might as well take advantage of the fact we can't recruit any quality in-state players.

Syracuse's defense was atrocious. But I'm not really focused on that. We could upset them but most likely not. I just don't understand why it's Kentucky that everyone is focused on. There are so many other good schools we could play and upset. John and DK probably won't play unless it's a 1time neutral site game and that's if they decided to.
Anyways I would love to play the Big 10, but any good program would do.
