I think if the A10's goal is to continue to upgrade out of the mid-major category for basketball, we need to have schools who are willing to put the money into programs consistent with this goal including facilities. Bru has done a good job with Drexel and they are clearly a good team right now, but is the University willing to upgrade further? Just MHO. Butler, VCU and George Mason all have good arenas with good capacities and substantial comittments to the programs.
On a personal note, adding GM would be nice as friend/alum lives close by making a road trip/visit convenient. |

As far as Drexel, I'm sure that they would be willing to find open dates at the Wells Fargo Center in Philly for games expected to draw big crowds. _________________ Refuse To Lose!!! |

| Well, A-10 would work with them on it. And they wouldnt have far to go. Rose Hill at Fordham only holds 3.5k. But I have an inclination that it would be hard for Drexel to find much more space in Philly. |

I don't know if they are willing, but I'd like to think they would be for a move from the CAA to the A-10. And the conference would certainly try to help another Philly school get in to strengthen our hold on the city with the loss of Temple. _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

| Renamed this thread to be inclusive of the Butler incoming talk, and the Charlotte leaving talk. |

| I'm not sure it makes a whole lot of sense to go after yet another Philly school as far as elevating the A10 brand nationally is concerned, though beyond Butler, VCU and George Mason the pickings get thin. My first thought would have been Old Dominion but they are reportedly following Charlotte to CUSA. I'd guess they'd look at one of Creighton, Drexel, Valpo, Siena, etc... From the UMass perspective I'd prefer another public university to balance out the heavy emphasis on small privates currently in the league, but I'm at a loss as to who that might be. |

If the A-10 wants to add VCU and GM and then one more to get to 16, here are some possibilities. I have no idea if any of these teams would want to move, but I figured I would just throw them out there for discussion.

I don't think we want to have any MAC teams join the A-10... I just feel like it would goof things up on the Football side, even though the A-10 doesn't have a football league. _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

I think with Charlotte leaving they should just add VCU or George Mason and stay at 14. This way they put pressure on those teams to join and the league stays strong without having to add a subpar team just to round it up to 16.
Depending on how quickly Umass can rise in football then we can get an invitation to join the Big East or hopefully the ACC, then and only then should the A-10 make moves to round up to 16. _________________ Yes I am a Minuteman!! Best 60 seconds of your life!! |

Personally I'd prefer we go back to 10 teams. But that's just me. _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

Can you kick teams out of a conference? I'd have no problem going to 10 or 12 teams if they could kick out some of the perennial underperformers (here's looking at you Fordham). |

No... I don't believe you can. At least not without some type of buyout... the contract goes both ways, I'm sure! _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

Now you're talking! Add Butler, VCU and GMU and goodbye Fordham...there's a nice round 14 schools. |

| No way the A-10 dumps Fordham unless they get another NYC area school to replace them (Hofstra? Iona?) |

If they bring in Hofstra, the league will probably try to make Chaz sit out a 2nd year! _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |
