Derrick Gordon will be on campus this weekend.

Per Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports (@GoodmanCBS) on Twitter, then retweeted by Gordon.

UMass will get a visit this weekend from Western Kentucky transfer @Derrick5Gordon. Would be a huge get for Derek Kellogg and Minutemen.

Haha. Just came on here to post that news. Anyone know what the weather is like this weekend? Any fun on-campus activities? I've been hearing really good things about this kid and think he'd be a great get for the program.

This kid apparently had offers from UVA, Auburn and Rutgers out of HS but committed to WKU very early in the process because they were among the first schools that recruited him and he really liked the fit. He apparently was a little under the radar in HS due to his teammates: Michael Kidd Gilchrist and Kyrie Irving. That's probably a big part of the reason why he didn't quite get as much notice: he had two lottery picks playing along side him in the backcourt on one of the best HS teams in America. All indications are that he's the real deal. Anyone who scores 12 points a game as a freshman (for a team which managed to get to the dance...and yes it was out of the sunbelt but still) and played with those guys in HS will probably be good in the A10. With two wings leaving in Freddie and Javorn, it'd be nice to see him fill that void, especially because he'd have two full seasons once Jesse has departed. JL and this kid, Cady and Maxie down low. Get us a point guard and we'll remain really good even with no more Chaz.

This would be a great fit for him and the team! I have seen him play and he could be a big time A10 player in a year or two. With our style of play he'd get better and more frequent looks from 3 point range.

Wow. He has some absolutely great rebounding numbers for a guard.

Looks like he cut down on his turnovers and fouls as the season went on.

For anyone that has watched him play, can you give us an idea of what kind of player he is? What kind of skills does he have and what skills does he lack?

Also, how exactly does a transfer factor into scholarships a team is allowed during the year they are ineligible to play? Does the player get a scholarship during that first year, but it doesn't count towards the team's max?

He can come without a scholarship or he can get one immediately (much more likely). And yes, it counts toward the limit.

Haven't watched much of him play but the stuff I can find leads me to believe that he is Chaz + a few inches playing SG. He isn't as fast as #3 but he looks comfortable on the fast break. He has the skills to dribble and penetrate against defenders and will drive with the ball if the lane is open. People say he is comfortable from three but his stats don't reflect that. That may be a function of the system he was in.

I wonder how that will play out with Freeman. We can't offer them both a scholarship next year, so it is probably a situation where we might get one or the other, but can't get both. I wonder which DK would prefer to have.

We can give them both a 'ship if Trey Davis isn't coming here.

There hasnt been any indication that Trey Davis is coming here. He quit at Vermont Academy, and moved back to Texas. Since then he has totally dropped off the radar. DK or anyone for that matter hasnt mentioned anything about him. I think we are fooling ourselves if we are certain he will be here next fall. Plus, this team has no place for quitters, and from those who saw him play -- he wasnt all that impressive. He backed out of his commitment from GWU then left Vermont Academy after 3 months. Smells like a kid who cant commit to anything. No thanks. And I think it is pretty telling that DK is going after guards still -- So, I think we have 2 scholarships to offer.

Lock up this kid, he is legit. And lock up Freeman and we are in very good shape.
