ODU is a surprise there. That is one UGLY league I must say!

So... we have 14 now, subtract Temple and Charlotte for '13, the rumors add VCU, George Mason, and Butler for '13. That's 15 teams, awkward number.

Who's your ideal choice for 16? Or contraction to 14 (less likely)?

I would rather see a 16 team league, but 14 is OK if we contract one of the perpetual bottom feeders and get 3 quality teams to come in. If we go to 16, I would look at Valparaiso. There also from Indiana (see Butler) and the Horizon League. While they are a smaller Lutheran school, they are generally very competitive in basketball.

Good riddance to Charlotte, they've been a disappointment. I thought they'd be a good addition, but they've just been a longer road trip for the team.

Lock up Butler for 13/14, then see what happens next....Maybe we tell ODU and GMU that there is one spot, first to commit gets it....that might get things moving.

I'd be in favor of letting Temple and Charlotte just go, and have a 12 team league..... But Butler is too good to pass up, and replaces Temple from a quality standpoint. It also bring a new market into play, which actually makes them more valuable than Temple, in a sense.

Since Derrick Gordon is tranferring from WKU, wouldn't that be an interesting matchup if both things happened. Unfortunately, I'm starting to think that it will be neither. I'm on board with Drexel if we can get them even though I would like to see us go somewhere other than Philly for a new member.

I think the A-10 should invite VCU and GMU and stop there.

My choices to bring us to a 16-team conference would be as follows and in that order:

Butler (Check)
VCU (TBD)
GMU (TBD)
ODU
Drexel

ODU would be good, being a large public about UMass' size and with a solid tradition in basketball- but they're going to Conference USA in all sports I'd assume, no sense hanging around CAA in basketball if VCU and GMU go.

edit- beat me to it, Chris!

I would like to see the following added:
1.) Butler
2.) VCU
3.) GMU
4.) SUNY-Stony Brook (I'd rather 2 teams in NY than 3 in Philly) They've come a long way in athletics in a short time and hoops team is improving.
