Saw this on the MAC board and then they talk that if true, ACC will have an opening say for UConn and the Big East is anybody's guess but a west team or Eastern Carolina seems the most deserving.
Really do not know what to make of it all, except the A10 is a very good conference and like the MAC of similar schools and very serious about Football. They have 6 very good football teams and some very week ones. Kind of reminds me the A10 of old. The MACtion seems to be catching on.
The A10/MAC combo is a very nice thing and feel we are pretty lucking to have made the jump. App State has been wanting to move up for years but still waiting for an invite.
Well get the recruits and in the next few years become very comptetitive and start having a winning record, that will help draw in the casual UMass fans. Looking forward to the Maine game and Boston College games as home openners in 2013 and 2014 respectively. _________________ Collection of Sports links |

Yeah, it's actually not a bad arrangement. MAC is getting better with some quality top-tier teams, and the conference is very stable as opposed to the Big East which keeps losing members and having to really stretch their footprint to find replacements. Rutgers and UConn leaving definitely hurts the conference. Louisville may end up leaving for the Big XII as well. Going to be pretty tough for them to find quality replacements.
The Big East has been the big loser during every realignment and for us it looks like the MAC/A10 arrangement is a fine one long term for us. |

Such an alignment does nothing for Men's Lax.
I do wonder if Big East approached UM across all sports, with our potential TV market, would we accept? _________________ Feeling entitled is JUST a feeling... |

Because UMass should make conference decisions based solely on the men's lacrosse program...
Regardless of where UMass lands in this morass of college athletic conferences, my hope is that all athletic programs play competitive teams. |

The Big Ten wants Rutgers because News Corp (which owns 50% of the Big Ten Network) is about to buy a large chunk of the YES Network and wants a NY area school. The Big Ten had been jilted at the alter before by Syracuse a decade ago and Rutgers (AAU member) is a more than willing partner.
Maryland wants in because they're out $150 million between renovations to Byrd Stadium and Comcast Center plus the POS football team not selling the newly constructed skyboxes Byrd. Senior day Saturday vs. Florida State was a strictly friends and family affair. Plus Kevin Plank (founder of Under Armour) who mystically runs MD's athletic department wants to push his product as a member of the Big Ten and is personally willing to write the $50 million exit fee check from the ACC.
At some point the Big East basketball Catholics are going to bail out and grab some other basketball Catholics from the A-10 to reformulate the old Big East. |

| If UConn and Rutgers move on, it's questionable whether the Big East as a football conference continues. Louisville's already begging to join the Big 12 or so conference, and the new schools will probably figures it's not worth the effort to to continue. Purely speculation, but I'd bet the remaining eastern schools reformulate or create a new CUSA and their western schools doe the same out west with the WAC or new conference. |

ESPN is reporting these moves will happen. Maryland Board of Regents voted unanimously, and they report Rutgers will announce tomorrow. _________________ I wrote this ... it's gotta be true. |

| The Big East is dead as a football conference. I really hope UMass does not join the Big East if invited. |

| I know. If UConn and Louisville jump ship there's only 3 teams left for football going forward out of the current teams. Temple, Cincy and USF. Yikes! |

Even with UConn and Rutgers, Big East football is of much lower quality than MAC football this year, and is probably going to be comparable for the foreseeable future.
That said, the Big East name still carries some cache. Based on that, I think the remaining members (at least the ones east of the Mississippi ) will opt to stick it out and try pouching other conferences. On the other hand, the sticking point has always been its hybrid model - the basketball schools have to approve of the new all-sport members. The remaining schools will have to overcome this if the football conference is to survive.
If these circumstances come to pass, I think UMass has a reasonable shot at an invite. But unlike past years, it won't be an easy decision. UMass will have to make a calculation based on the future viability of the Big East. |

Well the news keeps getting worse and worse for the Big East.

While this is all speculation and rumors, I think we need to consider the serious possibility that the Big East days are numbered. UMass moving to the MAC might end up being one of the smartest moves yet. I am wondering if the MAC has considered expansion given what has taken place with the Big 10 and soon the ACC.
UMass moved at the right time and is in a unique position. It sure is nice to be on the better side of this realignment. |

| So the MAC should poach from the Big East? I think they would need a better TV contract to do that. (though the Big East doesn't have any...) |
