Not a TV of media sighting, but one I thought I'd share anyways.
I live in Santiago, Chile, been here since Dec after a year in Buenos Aires. Was on the Metro yesterday and was standing next to a guy with a UMass hoody. Some nice nostalgia. _________________ Welcome Back DK!

On August 17, Rachel Maddow told the story of the UMASS Library using it as an intro to a story on VA claims. The Daily COllegian is noted as a photo source. Rachel refers to the University as "UMASS Amherst". She's a California native, so she's forgiven.

And if Bill O'Reilly did that, we know he wouldn't be forgiven.
Neither of them should be forgiven, all the same types of people.
And after watching that, I want to punch her in the face for the REPEATED use of "UMASS Amherst". _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

Actually, she's not a Smith Alum. She did have a radio show in Northampton at the beginning of her career. Notice in her UMASS story, she refers to UMASS affectionately. I would forgive any national commentator regardless of their political leanings for saying "UMASS Amherst" as long as they refer to the U affectionately. By contrast, there used to be a conservative radio talk show host in Dallas by the name of David Gold, who refered to UMASS as "The University of Moscow" in the "People's Republic of Massachusetts". I agreed with David's opinions more frequently than many conservative talkers, but I won't forgive him for that. _________________ "Good times and riches and son-of-a bitches, I've seen more than I can recall"-Jimmy Buffett |

Her saying 'UMASS Amherst' is a LOT LESS denigrating to the University than an alum like yourself proudly announcing that you would like to assault her physically.
"Punch HER in the face." Really? |

No, it really isn't.
But hey, if I had said that about Bill O'Reily, you'd have no issues at all, I'm sure.
And I would like to punch him in the face as well. Both of these people are scumbags. _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

I have a tough time "forgiving" anyone who would actually watch her... _________________ I'd tell you about my trip to the dentist, but you know the drill. |

I just watched the clip and, since I hadn't watched a Maddow clip in a couple of years, watched some others. First, I don't think she was dumping on UMass. Second, the comparison to O'Reilly is specious at best. Sure, she is a partisan left wing political commentator and O'Reilly is a partisan right wing political commentator. That's about it for similarities. Differences: O'Reily is generally a complete douchebag to any guest with whom he disagrees. I have never seen Maddow treat anyone she's interviewed badly (granted, I haven't watched much so maybe she has but O'Reilly does it EVERY time). Maddow's segments are video essays crafted like good expository writing. O'Reilly segments are almost entirely ad hominem attack with nothing of substance to back up his conclusions. |

Getting mad at people for saying "UMass-Amherst" is dumb considering its our own administration who vigorously brands and promotes the school as such. They're the ones to get angry at. _________________ UMass Hockey Blog:

I stand corrected. She's an alum of Stanford.
She does have a residence somewhere in WMass, though. |
