Mauldin called up to the Avs to help replace the injured David Van der Gulik (BU '06) and T.J. Galiardi: http://www.milehighhockey.com/2010/11/11/1808906/avalanche-recall-greg-mauldin

Quote:
His call-up isn't a complete surprise, as he's currently leading the Monsters in scoring with 12 points in 14 games. Mauldin will wear #20 for the Avalanche.

Lake Erie message boarders seem to think he'll get slotted in on the fourth line with Colorado, which coincidentally enough plays Mauldin's first NHL franchise, Columbus, on the road tonight.

Very happy for Mauldin. One of my favorite all-time UMass hockey players.

First NHL goal shorthanded and against a former team.

Avs gave Maulds #20 so hopefully that's a sign they intend on having him up for a while.

Justin Braun gets his first NHL goal for San Jose vs Ottawa tonight!

One of the best UMass defensemen of all time. Good for him!

Casey actually got his first last Spring and hasn't gotten another when he was up with the Wild this season. But yes, it's great to turn on NHL games now and be able to watch guys we saw in the Bill.

Also, Wellman mentioned UMass in a writeup:

Quote:
From there, Wellman enrolled at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and spent two years with the Minutemen, including a 2009-10 sophomore campaign which saw him post a team-high 23 goals – including a program-record 11 on the power play – and finish second with 45 points.

“Going to UMass, I think my game just matured,” Wellman said. “I really understood what it was going to take, and the coaches there helped me a lot.”

Bullmoose and I went to the Worcester Sharks game Friday night. Matt Irwin had an assist and Cory Quirk won a few key faceoffs. It was fun seeing them play again.

Paul Dainton picked up his first professional win in his second game for Springfield 7-2 @ Worcester. Named Game's #3 star.

Wellman scored last night for the Wild in their win. Minnesota has the set record in the league!
