Flutie deserves to be remembered, and that is what scrapbooks and newsclippings do. Enshrinement? Um, no.

touchdown eddie brown.... i haven't heard that name in what, 7 years or so? at one point the city of albany had the river rats, the fire birds and the diamond dogs... too bad that Major league Lacrosse didn't come out with the albany radioactive bass (from the hudson river) to round out the animal names

The Knick played host for a few years to the Albany Attack of the NLL, the indoor lacrosse league. Their mascot was a wild dog or wolf with a lacrosse stick in it's mouth. I always wondered why that team didn't succeed in Albany given the immense amount of lax talent in Section II.

He was infamous for backstabbing teammates, especially offensive side ones like QB's and receivers. Got worse in pros allegedly.

Terrific athlete - probably top 5 Mass produced from 1950 onward. He also should get credit for his work on autism issues, well before it got "popular" last year.

Fan favorite, not a team mate favorite.

CFL HoF: yes
Canton: no

When I was a kid I saw Flutie eating at the Wendy's on Rt. 9 in Natick. One of my first brushes with greatness.

Hall of Famer, great guy, from a great family, regardless of where he played his college career, which many of you seem to want to base this whole discussion on.

In my mind it has nothing to do with the contemptable place he chose to go to college. The fact of the matter is that he did nothing in the NFL to merit induction into Canton. As previously posted, regardless of the name it goes by, it is the NFL hall of fame and his accomplishments in the NFL were pedestrian at best.

Many people consider the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield to be the NBA Hall of Fame, yet numerous non-NBA players and coaches have been inducted. Why is this any different with Canton? Canton isn't the NFL Hall of Fame, it is the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Just like that dome thing in Springfield is the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame.

This is ridiculous. Flutie was the best PRO in his sport in his league. He is probably considered the greatest CFL player ever. How many times did he win the MVP??? 6 times. 3 time champion too. Nevermind the crazy amount of passing (and even rushing) yards he had.

His NFL career was sub-par. I will be the first to tell you that. He spent most of it as a backup, even though he should have been the full time starter for Buffalo, they fucked him over each year he was there.

Pro Football people, PRO FOOTBALL Hall of Fame.

Did you LOOK at the link I posted that was from the Hall Of Fame site??? Apparently not because you would see that NOBODY from the CFL is listed on the list of inductees. It's the PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME because they can't call it the NFL Hall Of Fame because there are AFL players in it from before there was an NFL. Do you not read posts??? This was mentioned by a couple of other people besides myself. Just because you think something is true, does not make it so. No wonder it's taken you 6 years to get out of there. Rolling Eyes

On top of the fact that there is already a CFL Hall Of Fame in Canada.....

All you need to do is read this....
http://www.profootballhof.com/hall/release.jsp?release_id=932

The Pro Football Hall of Fame concept, as far as Canton was concerned, first was placed before the public by the Canton Repository on December 6, 1959. That newspaper challenged its readers with the headline: "PRO FOOTBALL NEEDS A HALL OF FAME AND LOGICAL SITE IS HERE."

Canton civic groups quickly took up the challenge and, by January 25, 1961, William E. Umstattd of the Timken Company was in a position, as the selected representative of his city, to make a formal bid to the National Football League for acceptance of Canton as the site for a pro football hall of fame. Three months later, Canton was granted this official site approval.

In its day-to-day operation, the Pro Football Hall of Fame works very closely with all facets of the pro football family - the Commissioner's Office, the 32 NFL clubs, NFL Films, and NFL Network. The cooperative efforts of all of these organizations have contributed greatly to the overall success of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In turn, the Hall strives to serve as the best possible historical showplace and repository for the sport of pro football.

This isn't my interpretation of what the "Pro Football Hall of Fame" should be, it is the the way that the hall of fame itself has decided to operate. Per their own website, the only leagues they recognize are the NFL, pre-merger AFL and the US based leagues that predate the NFL. The HOF voters are specifically from the NFL cities, etc... They have clearly decided that their hall of fame would not include colleges, the CFL, or any other league.

The Basketball Hall of Fame was specifically intended to cover all facets of the game of basketball, including college basketball, etc...

Not my opinion, just the way the two halls choose to operate.

EDIT: Kosty, you beat me to it!

Take the stick out of your ass first, then we can continue.

SO WHAT IF THERE AREN'T ANY CFL PLAYERS IN THE PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME RIGHT NOW??!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?! Big fucking deal. I honestly can't name anyone else who ever played there, other than Warren Moon, and I only found that out because I read the ESPN article. There is a first for everything. Kind of like me graduating UMASS and you actually visiting Amherst. If the Hall decides to not let him in because they don't recognize the CFL, then that is fine, it is their right. It is wrong in my eyes, but I am not the guy who runs it. If they say he can get in, but isn't voted in, then that is fine too, though a glaring oversight in my eyes. I'm just trying to tell you that this is the PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME and he deserves to be in the PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME based on what he has done as a PRO ATHELTE.

Get that through your head. He deserves to be in. Whether he gets in has nothing to do with you, me, or anyone else on this site.

New England Sports Hall of Fame - yes.
College Football Hall of Fame - sure.
BC Hall of Fame - already there.
CFL - sure
Pro Football in Canton - Not a big enough NFL career. Here is the list of Hall of Fame QB's as of now:

http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/positions.html

The ony case to be made is that somehow he was as good as Warren Moon, also CFL. Marginal in my mind. They do NOT include any CFL data in the history stats.

Moon totals (NFL). Career Rating 80.

Flutie totals are about 1/3 of Moon;s in NFL. QB Rating only 72.

Troy Aikman 1989-2000
George Blanda (Also PK) 1949-1958, 1960-1975
Terry Bradshaw 1970-1983
Len Dawson 1957-1975
John Elway 1983-1998
Dan Fouts 1973-1987
Otto Graham 1946-1955
Bob Griese 1967-1980
Sonny Jurgensen 1957-1974
Jim Kelly 1986-1996
Bobby Layne 1948-1962
Dan Marino 1983-1999
Joe Montana 1979-1994
Warren Moon 1984-2000
Joe Namath 1965-1977
Bart Starr 1956-1971
Roger Staubach 1969-1979
Fran Tarkenton 1961-1978
Y.A. Tittle 1948-1964
Johnny Unitas 1956-1973

IV, you know i go to bat for you a lot but c'mon, the cfl is not close to the level of play of the nfl.... not ever not even close... i can see your point but the cfl is almost the equivalent of triple a baseball.... nobody would want the best triple a player of all time should go into the pro baseball hall of fame right?
