The point is is that it's not for all of football around the world. It was created by the NFL for their players and players from the pre NFL AFL. Canadian football players have no right even being considered for admittance in the NFL's Hall Of Fame.

I bet you didn't even know that a former UMass QB played in the CFL did you? Todd Bankhead played for the Hamilton TiCats I believe for a number of years after leaving Amherst. As for your claim that he is the best Canadian league player, he does not come close to Mike Pinball Clemons. Clemons was the CFL for more years than Flutie even played there and is now the head coach of the Toronto Argos.

IV, you know i go to bat for you a lot but c'mon, the cfl is not close to the level of play of the nfl.... not ever not even close... i can see your point but the cfl is almost the equivalent of triple a baseball.... nobody would want the best triple a player of all time should go into the pro baseball hall of fame right?

I guess I would not consider the CFL and Triple A Baseball to be on the same level.

I am going to digress here. I believe he is qualified to be in, and that he should be in. Many of you disagree to either one of those, or both. Getting into a pissing match over it is a waste of time for all involved. Canton and the voters will make the decision when it has to be made.

EDIT: Just saw your post Kosty. Did not know of the UMASS player in the CFL, and I believe I said "probably" when I said he is considered the best CFL player ever.
EDIT 2: Yep, I did say "probably".

I consider the Pro Football HOF to be to be our national hall of fame, nation being the USA. CFL players and their stats should not be recognized by the hall

I'd like to nominate Bobby Rose for the Baseball Hall of Fame. Review here for discussion:

Oh yeah. His career was in Japan, where he was one of the best second basemen ever.

National Baseball Hall of Fame... that is what it is called in Cooperstown. Last time I checked, Japan wasn't part of our nation.

Thanks for playing though Chuff, you are such a good sport!

Flutie sucked, that's why he was in the CFL and later as a backup in the NFL. That IV thinks that is a qualifier for induction into the Hall of Fame shows why he thinks his juvenile antics at hoops games is fine. It's also why he's still in school.

Brian, you just aren't the sharpest tool in the shed, but at least you're a tool.

This whole discussion is friggin' unbelievable. I guess there are still "fans" who get a woody every time NESN shows Flutie catching another foul ball at Fenway.

If Flutie makes it to Canton, Canton loses a huge chunk of its luster in my eyes. However, if he does make it, let's open te flood gate to!:

MATT DUNIGAN!!: 43,857 passing yards, 211 TDs, 5,031 Rushing yards, 77 Rushing TDs.

Ed McIlhenny (spelling?) spent a dozen or so years with the Calgary Stampeders as a defensive end. He had some monster years, and was a fan favorite. I would argue that Ed had a more illustrious career in the CFL than Flutie because of his longevity. So, in my book, Flutie is not even the best New Englander to play in the CFL. He is certainly beloved in Calgary. Where Flutie went to college is immaterial to me. Again, he deserves to be remembered, but not enshrined.

I'm feeling pretty masochistic, apparently, because I'm going to try to find an answer that IV can accept here.

Flutie doesn't deserve to be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, because the Pro Football Hall of Fame is not what you want it to be. Does that count as false advertising? Perhaps, but it's not exactly a secret, nor is it new information. As some have mentioned, the ONLY reason it's not called the "NFL Hall of Fame" is because that would ignore certain leagues and figures who were involved with the league before it took its current shape. The Pro Football Hall of Fame has never, and will never, be as broad reaching as you would apparently like it to be. Now, were there to be a hall that DID cover all football, everywhere, should Flutie get in there? Sure. But just like you don't see Triple AAA stars in the Baseball Hall of Fame, you don't see CFL and Arena stars in the Football Hall. It's quite simply just the way it is, and to argue that Flutie belongs in the Hall is like arguing that Jefferson Davis should be considered among the 43 presidents of the United States. Sure, there's reasonable logic to be used, but it's just not going to happen.

Whew, how's that?

I wholeheartedly agree with IV on this one. Flutie won three Grey Cup MVPs and a record six CFL most outstanding player awards. He most definitely deserves enshrinement and the fact that he went to BC doesn't put me off at all. Just listen to his retirement press conference to see what kind of class guy he was.

If I used press conferences to determine people's character I would think our current President was a hell of a guy.
