Regardless of what happens with the Mets - the 2004 Yanks win this award hands down.

Prior to 04, no team has ever, EVER lost four straight in any playoff series after winning the first three games.

THis is a no brainer.

as far as regular season chokes, the mets aren't even close to the 78 red sox. not sure why that team isn't on the list.

Umm..7 games blownin the last two weeks is FAR worse than 14 games blown in the final two months. And people forget the Red Sox in '78 had to make a serious run at the end to come back and tie the Yankees.

the jury's still out on the mets cause theyre tied in the division with one to play. if they were to win and the phillies lose then you cant put the mets in this discussion.

How can the 14 Giants, 51 Dodgers or the 78 Red Sox be excluded?

The 1914 Boston Braves were 15 games back - dead last in eighth place on July 4-5, and ended up winning the National League pennant.

The NY Giants finished in second 10.5 games back (after having been in first on July 4th).

In this case, it's probably less of a collapse by the Giants and more the play of the "Miracle Braves", who played 68-19 - .782 ball for three months. Shocked

The Braves then swept the Philadelphia Athletics in the World Series.

In 1951 the Giants were 13 and a half back of the Dodgers in mid-August. Then Bobby Thomson hit the shot heard round the world.

In 1978 the Sox were up 14 games in July and we all know how that turned out.

It's also hard to compare chokng over the curse of a season and choking in a series.

Series - Yankees 2004
Season - Phillies 1964 - They finished tied for 2nd with the Reds.

More of the concept I believe that you're up by a pretty large, if not relatively a near-insurmountable lead with a short timeframe left...and then you give it all up and end up on the short end of the stick.

That being said, you can toss the mets in now to that discussion...nice way to go too giving up 7 in the top of the 1st.

The 64 Phils are the clear-cut winner. It's not difficult, it's just math. Biggest lead with the fewest amount of games left.
