Finished updating Freddie's page with all the 2011-12 numbers:
http://umasshoops.com/wiki/doku.php?id=riley_freddie
Some things I noticed when looking at the season numbers...
- In UMass wins, Riley shot .393 from the floor. In losses, he shot just .247.
- When he shot better than his season average (.345), UMass was 11-3 (.786). UMass was 25-12 (.676) overall on the season.
- When Riley scored in double-figures, UMass was 9-1 (.900).
His minutes took a drop after the Duquesne game, in which he shot 3-13 in 25 minutes. Through that game, he was averaging 19.8 minutes. After that, he only had 14.7, and 3 games in the single digits. FGAs were averaging 8.6, then dropped to 4.8.
He still loves the 3. His 3 to 2 ratio had gone down from freshman to sophomore, but it climbed back up a little this year. He now averages 2.3 3-point shots for each 2-pointer. Unfortunately, his 3 percentage this year was his lowest, just 30.5% He shot 34.8% as a freshman.
Free throws are still surprisingly low for such a shooter, just 53.8% on the season and 48.5% career.
With all that though, he's got a chance to be part of the 1,000 point club. He's at 714 now, leaving 286 to go. He scored 239 this season. However, with the full roster we have, he's certainly going to be challenged for playing time. We'll see. |

| Mike, I hope Freddie finds the consistency to his game that has been missing. |

| I think with the deeper bench and that DK seemed to shorten that bench towards the end of the year and stick with guys on the floor to finish games, I dont think Riley even comes close to 1000 points. I honestly think he will be one of the last guys off the bench even being a SR. |

Ouch....let the Riley bashing begin. I would be shocked if he were one of the last guys off of the bench this coming season. He's the primary backup for Morgan.
Edit: Insider, for clarification I'm not saying that you are bashing Riley but there are some very vocal critics of Riley's playing/tweeting abilities. |

hahaha....he is a lightning rod!
Freddie will get his chances. He showed that he is athletic enough to be an effective defender, especially since he has decent size.
Freddie needs to spend the summer practicing the one thing he was supposed to be good at. He needs to gain confidence. His ball handling could use some work as well.
Please note, I think EVERY player should be working hard on their games and conditioning all summer....I'm not singling out or bashing Freddie. I'll wait until he tweets something utterly moronic for that. |

| Not trying to bash him at all. I hope he does well but the reality is he was pretty much the last guy off the bench at the end of the year when we had no bench. Don't see him getting much time with a full team. Maybe 10 mpg at best |

| Freddie will get the minutes he earns, just like every other player on the team. If he plays hard, takes good shots (and makes a reasonble %) and plays good D, he will get his minutes. This year, he has JL to compete with as well as Jesse, so he will have to be more consistent to stay on the court. |

| The "makes a reasonable %" part is what needs to be addressed. |

It is going to be a fight to get minutes next year. Just doing some quick estimates here's what I came up with for projected minutes per game for the roster. Assuming Cady is healthy and Freeman redshirts. Riley is looking at about 10 minutes a game. Of course injuries and other unforseen events are going to affect how this shakes out.
Top 5 are the starters...
Min per game
32 Chaz Williams
25 Raphiael Putney
25 Cady Lalanne
25 Jesse Morgan
20 Terrell Vinson
15 Maxie Esho
15 Sampson Carter
12 Javorn Farrell
10 Freddie Riley
8 Tyler Bergantino
8 Jordan Laguerre
5 Trey Davis |

You're forgetting McCarthy.
He was clearly the last man off the bench this past season, but I'm just curious if you're even expecting him to be on the roster. |

I think Laguerre is a serious threat to the minutes of Riley, and to Trey D as well.
Laguerre is good. He will earn some time. |

| While this debate probably makes sense somewhere else... I don't see many players averaging more than 20 minutes per game. I think we run and run hard. I doubt Jesse gets 25, and same with Put. Cady and Chaz are the only ones who I think get upwards of 20 a game, and then depends on how berg plays, cady's health, as well as if freeman RS's. |

Fouls/who's hot will have a lot to say about minutes....but I agree, we'll be FULLMASS quite a bit, like the beginning of last year, and everyone will be getting time. Tyler and Isaac will replace Sean.....I can see Isaac being a menace defending inbounds passes, with his 35 foot wingspan.
I think we'll be fun to watch, with or without Cady contributing. Sampson Carter and Laguerre are nice pieces to add to what was a pretty good team. |

I do expect him on the roster, I can't remember if I consciously left him off because I expect him to get virtually zero minutes, or I just forgot about him.
I absolutely gave the benefit of the doubt to guys that played this year, over guys that haven't played in a UMass uniform. So JL, TB and TD probably all have a good chance of getting more minutes than I marked them for.
I had a hard time justifying giving Morgan and Putney fewer than 25 mpg. Morgan and Putney averaged 26.7 and 24.2 mpg respectively this year, and I expect Putney to be much improved and less foul prone next year. |

12 guys are listed above getting minutes. Not listed are Gordon who will sit out and Izzy who may well red shirt.
That makes 14. As discussed elsewhere, we have 13 scholarships. There are decent odds that one of the 12 listed will not be with us. I don't know who or why, but if someone goes that will be consistent with what has happened the great majority of years in the last twenty. _________________ "Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said.
