Holy shit!
You can apparently still ask him about it, though! http://umassathletics.cstv.com/ot/ask-coach.html _________________ "All life we work, but work is a bore. If life's for living, what's living for?" - Ray Davies |

| Brown did a great job at UMass and is an excellent choice for Maryland. He was a hands on head coach who will work well with an offensive minded head coach in Ralph Friedgen - who I believe calls his own plays. Might give the Terps a Whipple/Brown type dynamic. Best of Luck Coach Brown - UMass' loss is Maryland's gain. |

True enough IV, but we got to vent our spleens a bit a couple of weeks ago, too... _________________ "All life we work, but work is a bore. If life's for living, what's living for?" - Ray Davies |

Wish him the best of luck and hope he can take over the Maryland program when the Fridge retires soon.
Much better move than the Yale job. Guess he really did want out of the UMass job...
I guess Maryland didn't look at how poorly the defense played this past season...
It was a nice run! |

This is where Brown was smart though. He looked at the Yale job, didn't like it, decided to stay at UMass, a new opportunity came along and he took it and said all the right things. Unlike another coach we know who flirted with a job at a nearby school, came back and told us how much he loved it here and would DEFINITELY be back next year, only to jump on a jet to Backwater, Oklahoma the next day.
Brown was smart and kept his mouth shut after the Yale thing and didn't make a big spectacle of his decision to stay at UMass.
At the very least we know that Brown didn't tell his players he was leaving because he couldn't win a championship here....since there is no real national championship in FBS!
I'm surprised and disappointed, but I'm not angry. Brown had a lot of success here and I wish him well. But at the same time I think we're in a good position to get another coach just as good and maybe even better. _________________ UMass Hockey Blog:

I'm happy that somebody else recognized such a key difference in the departure of Travis Ford and Don Brown. I'm upset that our football program will suffer a setback because of his untimely departure, but at least he didn't spew all kinds of bullshit on the way out the door.
This just plain sucks that we now have no coach. With the departure of Brown, I'm curious to see what happens with his assistants. If this leads to the departure of Kevin Morris I can't say that it was all that terrible of a thing for the program. For everything good Brown did with the defense, Morris continued to find new and exciting ways to waste his talent on offense. |

| If DeFilippo was AD at UMass he'd fire Brown retroactively. |
