MHERST, Mass. - UMass put together one of its most complete performances of the season in a rousing 100-63 win over a hot La Salle team in Wednesday's Senior Night at the Mullins Center. The A-10's leading scorer Gary Forbes scored his 1,000th point at UMass as he racked up 26 points and 11 rebounds in his final regular-season home game at the Mullins Center. Four other Minutemen reached double-figures as sophomore Ricky Harris scored 21, Dante Milligan tallied 18 points, six rebounds and blocked five shots. Chris Lowe posted a triple-double with 14 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds. Etienne Brower started slow, but finished with 13 points.
UMass picks up its 20th win of the season for the 14th time in school history, standing at 20-9. The Minutemen, who have won five games in a row and are now 9-6 in the Atlantic 10. La Salle, who was tied with UMass in third place entering the game is now 8-7 in the league and 14-15 overall. The Explorers were led by Darnell Harris, who had 13. He was held to one point in the first half.
It was the third time this season UMass scored 100 points.
The Minutemen blew out the Explorers in the second half outscoring them 61-42 in the second half.
The Explorers cut the lead to 51-36 with 15 minutes left in regulation, but Forbes' second 3-pointer of the game gave UMass back a lead of 54-36.
Forbes hit his first 3-pointer in two games to give UMass a 43-19 lead with just one minute into the second half.
The Minutemen led 39-19 at halftime with Ricky Harris leading all scorers with 13 points. La Salle's Darnell Harris was limited to just one shot attempt in the first half, scoring a single point on a free throw.
Lowe's steal and lay-up put the Minutemen up 34-17 with 3:23 left in the first.
Forbes reached 1,000 points in his UMass career on a jumper in the paint with 5:40 left in the first half, giving UMass its largest lead to date at 28-16. That basket forced La Salle to call timeout.
Forbes' breakaway spinning reverse dunk gave UMass a 26-16 lead with 5:54 left in the first, that gave him 998 points at UMass. Five straight points by Milligan, who had four blocked shots in the game's first 10 minutes, gave UMass a 22-14 lead with 9:24 left in the first half.
The game began with a fiery tone as both teams scrapped and scraped. Ricky Harris hit his second 3-pointer to give UMass a 17-9 lead with 11:05 left in the first half.
UMass, seeking a first-round bye in the Atlantic 10 Tournament which begins on March 12, will finish the regular-season on Saturday at George Washington (9-15, 5-9 A-10) at 7:30 p.m.
NOTES
Gary Forbes became the 39th player in UMass history with 1,000 points. He reached his 1,000th point on a jumper in the paint with 5:40 left in the first half. Including 511 points in his first two years at Virginia, Forbes now has 1531 in his four-year college career.
Forbes continued to score in double-figures in every game of his career with 79. Forbes has scored 10 or more in 33 games in a row dating to last season.
Forbes scored 20 or more points for the 17th time in 29 games this year. Forbes had his sixth game with 25 points this season.
Forbes has his ninth double-double of the year with 26 points and 11 rebounds.
Forbes now has the eighth-best single season scoring mark with 590. He passed Monty Mack (566).
Chris Lowe had the sixth triple-double in UMass history with 14 points, 13 assists and 10 assists. The last came against La Salle last year when Stephane Lasme had his fourth of the season.
Dante Milligan reached double-figures for the 10th time this season with 18 points. He had 10 in the first half alone.
Ricky Harris scored in double-figures for the 26th time in 29 games this season with 21 points. He made four 3-pointers to move to ninth in single-season 3-pointers with 87. He passed Anthony Anderson, who had 74.
UMass had three players with 10 or more rebounds for the second time this season. The previous last was in 1999. Gary Forbes had 11, Chris Lowe had 10 and Tony Gaffney had 10.
Tony Gaffney reached double-figures in rebounding for the third time this season.
Luke Bonner drew two charges.

Coach Ford on the team's effort today:
I didn't see that coming. Our guys played hard, really hard, with a lot of energy. We made plays for ourselves tonight, especially during the game with steals and rebounding. We didn't sit back. A lot of times we sit back and hope that a team misses or we don't make enough plays at times. Tonight we made plays and didn't sit back. We had great play out of all of our seniors. These are some amazing stats and there is no explanation other than we just played hard.
Coach Ford on the upcoming George Washington game:
We've got a big game on Saturday. We played well today and I hope this carries over. Every game presents a new challenge and we're happy that we have won some games here lately. Saturday is going to be tough, very tough. George Washington is a tough place to play. We are going to be playing for a lot, and a lot is at stake. They [George Washginton] are playing their best basketball. They have made some adjustments the last couple weeks with their basketball team. We played well today.
Chris Lowe on today's game:
We just tried to play our game. Coach Ford has been really tough on us these past couple of days because he knew LaSalle was a dangerous team. They beat Dayton, Saint Joe's, they played against Rhode Island well and they really had them beat. We didn't want to take any chances so we just came out and put in the extra effort.
Dante Milligan on outrebounding LaSalle:
I was actually quite surprised when Coach Ford came in smiling saying we outrebounded them by 22 because we usually don't outrebound a team by that much. It was definitely accomplished and hopefully we can carry that on to G.W.
Chris Lowe on his triple double:
Coach said I needed two more rebounds and one assist. I got the assist from, I think, Etienne backdoor. I needed two more rebounds and got one then Darnell Harris started hitting jumpers. I told my teammates to tighten up the defense so they wouldn't hit shots and Etienne played good D and I got my final rebound.
La Salle Coach Dr. John Giannini on the game:
We have been playing pretty well and we have played a lot of good teams this year. We have never lost a game like that, and we are not pleased with our effort. UMass was really overwhelming. The way we played I don't even know if we were at our absolute best if we could have had a chance to win the game. They were that good and we were that bad and that was reflected in the score and every statistic. They played like a team that was very good and is trying to make a run into the postseason and really make their senior day something special. So they had it all going today, let's just hope the A-10 does not send us here next year on senior day.
Darnell Harris on the play of UMass:
I don't know if they did anything in particular, we really were not getting a lot of good shots. I really don't like to force shots and I did not have an open look so I was swinging the ball to my teammates when they were open.
