Re: Return of Derek Kellogg
10 NCAA Tournament appearances up through 1999 compared to our 8 up to 1999. Since? Creighton has been to 15 NCAA Tournaments compared to our 1.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

CU two head coaches in 25 years....UMass six. CU ONE losing season, UMass too many. All that Omaha Warren Buffett money or the free Omaha steaks.

Re: Return of Derek Kellogg
Still shit talking DK on here. What a shocker. "The worst Xs and Os UMass coach ever." And yet he got us to the Dance in a better A10. If that isn't a notable accomplishment, why haven't so many others done it? Lappas obviously didn't. Ford probably would have, but he told us to F Off for oil money. Golden Boy McCall was a trainwreck. Frank, who I still believe in, had a terrible first season and lost major pieces to the portal. Some of you really need to reconsider your talent evaluation of UMass coaches and players.
Thank you DK for recruiting until the end. Best wishes to you and your family.

Re: Return of Derek Kellogg
Two transfers this offseason. Both brought in by DK.
I don't know how anyone can say DK was a worse coach than McCall as well.
That's all I have to say.

Re: Return of Derek Kellogg
DK was a great recruiter, but not as good at x's and o's. McCall wasn't a good recruiter and not much better at x's and o's.
Re: Return of Derek Kellogg
Floyd if you think a player who is good enough to elevate a program that much (and probably by himself) is going to ignore the money to come here instead, you are out of touch with this whole process. I do not know what is in the "Friend's of Umass" coffers, but I am willing to bet it ain't enough. RJ turned down (for lack of a better word) a $100K deal forfuksakes. If we can't keep a kid of RJ's talent level with that kind of money, we are in big, big trouble.Floyd wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 2:17 pm I think if we're looking for guys who only care about NIL money we're in trouble. I agree with Juice that it's the whole package, and those are the kids we should want so they stick around
Re: Return of Derek Kellogg
My point is that there's enough kids out there that can play together and win together without needing the roster to be full of 4&5 star kids. Yup RJ left, but if kids are only concerned about NIL money and bouncing around, they will do that anywhere. Kids are leaving Duke & Kentucky too. Recruiting is harder now for sure, but I think there's kids out there that are thinking about more than just NIL. Rather a team full of lower rated guys who play together than 2 guys concerned about their numbers and exposure to NIL deals. Just me tho
And do we know it was only about money with RJ? Maybe he didn't like Frank's pressure

No, not joking and I disagree with everything you’ve written.Quann wrote: Sat Apr 08, 2023 4:15 pmMerlin Samuels wrote: Fri Apr 07, 2023 10:43 pmUm no. He’s not in dire straits. He could have held a grudge and gone elsewhere.eldonabe wrote: Thu Apr 06, 2023 3:03 pm
Ones that need a paycheck.... especially when there are few if any other opportunities available.
Floyd: I do not know for sure if he would have had other opportunities, but it is likely. Assistants jump all over the place every year like musical chairs including HC's who lose their jobs. As noted DK lost his job much later than normal and the music had already stopped. UMass happened to be open - he is here out of coincidental timing if you ask me.
I doubt he was planning to be here more than one year to begin with, but you gots' to pay da bills...
What grudge could he have with UMass? For keeping him on way longer than he should have been as head coach as he underachieved year after year here? You have to be joking. Him going to Creighton is not a loss for UMass.
Re: Return of Derek Kellogg
DK has updated his Twitter to reflect the Creighton job
https://twitter.com/CoachKellogg
DK now works for the guy who beat him in November 2015
https://gocreighton.com/news/2015/11/25 ... 55821.aspx
We had beaten Clemson by 17 two days prior, but we gave up 60 to the Jays in the second half that night.

Re: Return of Derek Kellogg
Creighton should be fun to watch. They lost Nembhard to Gonzaga, but Stephen Ashworth is a total gym rat, very scrappy type player who you hate if you're playing against him, but probably love him if he's on your team. He's definitely got a lot of similar spirit to DK.
I'll definitely make more of a point to watch the Blue Jays next season.

Re: Return of Derek Kellogg
I will say it. DK was an awful basketball coach, worse than McCall. He was a much better recruiter though. He brought in decent talent during his tenure which is why his coaching inability was so frustrating. That NCAA tourney team had a lot of talent and even though we got screwed playing that 11 seed Tennessee team that year (they were on fire), losing by 40 as a 6 seed was one of the most pathetic coaching performances in tourney history. He sucks on the court.inthescoop wrote: Wed Apr 12, 2023 1:12 pm Two transfers this offseason. Both brought in by DK.
