Amherst, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts senior center Kitwana Rhymer (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for his performance in UMass' games against Connecticut and Central Connecticut State last week, the league announced today.

Rhymer had 12 points, a then-season-high 12 rebounds and four blocks in UMass' 69-59 homecourt loss to Connecticut, then came back against Central Connecticut State to record season highs of 24 points and 15 rebounds in the Minutemen's 64-49 victory over the Blue Devils.

For the week, Rhymer averaged 18.0 ppg and 13.5 rpg, while shooting 57.8 percent from the field (15-of-26) and 75.0 percent (six-of-eight) at the free throw line. It marked the second time in Rhymer's career that he earned the A-10's weekly honor, as he was also honored last year for his effort's against Dayton and Duquesne.

UMass, which stands 5-3 after Saturday's win over Central Connecticut State, is idle until hosting former Yankee Conference rival Maine on Sunday, Dec. 23, at 2 p.m. in the Mullins Center.

Tickets for the game are available and may be purchased through TicketMaster or the UMass Athletic Ticket Office at 1-866-UMASS-TIX or (413) 545-0810.
