Gibbs plays his AAU and travel basketball for the Connecticut Basketball Club (CBC) where he is coached J.R. Hargreaves and Pat Sullivan. According to scouting services, Gibbs is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in New England. He is rated as the nation's 28th best point guard by scout.com and 33rd by rivals.com.

"David is not only the fastest player I have ever coach, but the fastest I have ever seen on the court," said Sullivan, who coaches him for seven years with CBC. "David does everything well. He is solid on defense. He is extremely unselfish and can score at will. He has competed against the highest level of competition and succeeded. He has all the tools and see the floor very well. He makes ever player on the court better as he has the unique ability to get the ball to where his teammates can have the most success."
