2019-20 Season

The 2019-20 UMass Minutemen men's basketball team represents the University of Massachusetts, the flagship campus in Amherst. The Head Coach was Matt McCall. The team plays its home games in the Mullins Center in Amherst, Massachusetts, and is a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference.

The 2019-20 season represents the 111th season of basketball in the school's history.

  • Djery Baptiste came to UMass after the Fall 2018 semester, after graduating early from Vanderbilt. He also has the option to play again in 2019-20 as a graduate student.58)
  • Keon Clergeot transferred into UMass for the 2017-18 season.59)60) Per NCAA transfer rules, he sat out the 2017-18 season, but retains two years of eligibility.
  • Davonté Higginbottom will walk-on with the team in the 2019-20 season, his first year on the team. Academically, he is in the class of 2020.
  • Dibaji Walker transferred into UMass for the 2019-20 season. NCAA rules mandate he must sit out the 2019-20 season, but Walker has applied for an exemption to allow him to play immediately.61)62)63)
  • Randall West joins from the football team, where as of the 2018-19 roster, he was listed as a Redshirt Junior. He did not play in the 2015 football season, and did in 2016 and 2017.64)65)

Jalen Thomas (6-10 230 Center, Detroit MI / Univ of Detroit Jesuit HS) had signed an NLI in November 2018, but announced he re-opened his recruiting on 4/10/19.66)67) He subsequently committed to Georgia State.68)

Pre-Season Predictions

In the Atlantic 10 Pre-Season predictions, UMass was picked to finish 11th out of the 14 teams. No Minuteman was included in any of the All-League Teams (1st/2nd/3rd/Defensive).

ASU and SJU will play on 11/23. The winner of that game will play the winner of the 11/23 UMass/UVA game, and the losers will play in a consolation game.
