The 2019-20 UMass Minutemen men's basketball team represented the University of Massachusetts, the flagship campus in Amherst. The Head Coach was Matt McCall. The team played its home games in the Mullins Center in Amherst, Massachusetts, and was a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference.
The 2019-20 season represented the 111th season of basketball in the school's history.
The season ended prematurely, as the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the A-10 Tournament. UMass did not get to play their scheduled game on March 12, and lost any chance of additional games had they won on 3/12.1)2)

11/9 | at Fairfield | W 62-60 | Tre Mitchell (18) | Tre Mitchell (7) | 2-0 | – | – | – | At Webster Bank Arena, Bridgeport CT.6) UM gets off to promising 16-8 start, then allows Fairfield a 31-13 run over the next 16 minutes. UM regroups, finds the right combo on the floor, and holds on for the first road win in 11 months. 11/23 | vs Virginia | L 58-46 | Pierre (14) | Diallo (8) | 5-1 | – | – | 7 | Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off, at Mohegan Sun Arena. A combination of VA's killer defense, and UM shots that refused to fall (30% overall, 19% from 3), and UM's bid to pull the major upset gets thwarted. UM cut a 16-point first half deficit to just 3 early in the second, but went ice cold again, hitting no shots in over 14 minutes. |
11/24 | vs St. John's | L 78-63 | Weeks (19) | Tre Mitchell (12) | 5-2 | – | – | – | Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off, at Mohegan Sun Arena. UM's 19 turnovers also hurt, 5 each for Chatman & Tre. East scores 16, Weeks 15, Pierre 13. |
12/7 | at Harvard | L 89-55 | Tre Mitchell (13) | Baptiste, Chatman (5 each) | 5-5 | – | – | – | UM offers little defense as Harvard's 89 points are the most on a non-conf opponent in almost six years. 12/30 | at Akron | L 85-79 | East (26) | Pierre (10) | 6-7 | – | – | – | Akron built a 17-point lead in the first, but UM fought back to make it a game in the second. 1/11 | at Dayton | L 88-60 | Tre Mitchell (16) | Tre Mitchell (7) | 7-9 | 1-2 | – | 15 | The first 5 minutes summed it up: 4 turnovers, 4 fouls, 3 missed shots, and UM started off in a 9-0 hole. Dayton way too talented for UM, building a 48-22 lead by halftime. Toppin 16 points in 19 minutes for UD, plus 5 other Flyers in double-figures. UM gets stolen 12 times, and turns it over 21 times, including 9 by East. |

1/18 | George Washington | L 75-51 | Tre Mitchell (13) | Diallo (6) | 7-11 | 1-4 | – | – | Tre Mitchell takes a seat with two fouls with 9:29 left in the first, and GW extends an 8-point lead to 16 at the break. GW builds it to 22 in the second, but UM responds to cut it to 8, only to regress and allow a 25-9 run to GW to close it out. GW wins the glass by 7, even without their best rebounder. UM shoots 36% overall, 21% from 3. |
1/22 | at George Mason | L 73-63 | Pierre (23) | Tre Mitchell (12) | 7-12 | 1-5 | – | – | Up and down game, as UM only manages 8 points in the first 12 minutes. Got hot and built a 40-31 lead, only to allow a 28-9 run over the next 9:33 to lose any chance. Pierre and Tre (14 & 12) do their part offensively, but East shoots 1-8, Keon 2-8, and no one else steps in with meaningful points. UM loses the glass and the turnover margin, and GMU's Javon Greene hits more FTs (13) than all of UM combined (11). |
1/25 | Duquesne | W 73-64 | Tre Mitchell (25) | Diallo (13) | 8-12 | 2-5 | – | RV | Santos gets the start and responds with season/career highs: 15 points, 12 boards, 2 steals, and 0 turnovers. More good numbers from Santos (12 & 8). Pierre 14 points, Tre Mitchell 12. |
2/1 | at Davidson | L 85-50 | Tre Mitchell (14) | Diallo / Tre Mitchell (6 each) | 9-13 | 3-6 | – | – | Bad defense and hot Cat shooting add up to a beat-down. Davidson goes .721 from the field, just .003 away from tying their all-time high mark. DC scores more in the first half (52) than UM does for the night, and led by 30 at the break. |
2/4 | at Rhode Island | L 73-67 | Tre Mitchell (30) | Pierre (6) | 9-14 | 3-7 | – | RV | Minutemen hang tough with Rams (ranked 30th), but can't get enough offense outside of Tre's new career high. Threes also don't fall for UM (4-19). Sizable disparity at the stripe: UM 5-7, URI 16-24. |
2/9 | George Mason | W 69-67 | Santos (17) | East, Tre Mitchell, Santos, Walker (5 each) | 10-14 | 4-7 | – | – | UM built a 66-52 lead with 5:21 to play, then fell asleep and allowed Mason to tie it at 66 with 1:23 left. Santos saves it with a block and rebound late, topping off his career high scoring day. Other solid games from Tre (7-10 FG), East (6-7), Baptiste (5-7). |
2/15 | Dayton | L 71-63 | Tre Mitchell (26) | Tre Mitchell (10) | 10-15 | 4-8 | – | 6 | Jalen Crutcher goes on a personal 11-2 run and Dayton turns a 5 point cushion into 16 in the second half, too much for UM to overcome. FG%: UD 53%, UM 38%. 3pt: UD 54%, UM 20%. Pierre continues to struggle (3-14). |
2/18 | Saint Louis | W 67-63 | Tre Mitchell (24) | Diallo (8) | 11-15 | 5-8 | – | – | UM fell behind 31-17, but fought back with another 20+ effort from Tre. Pierre only hits 2 shots on the night, but one is in crunch time to give us the lead for good. Walker 14 points, Santos 13. First win over SLU in 5 years. |
2/22 | at Fordham | W 57-49 | Tre Mitchell (15) | Tre Mitchell (19) | 12-15 | 6-8 | – | – | Tre goes scoreless in the first but activates beast mode in the second. His 19 boards blows away his previous high of 12. Good numbers from Diallo (14 & 8) and Pierre (13 & 4) help UM snap their 777 day conference road losing streak. UM +14 on the glass, and 12-14 from the stripe. |

2/29 | at Richmond | L 95-71 | Walker (19) | Tre Mitchell & Walker (7 each) | 13-16 | 7-9 | – | – | First half dooms UM, as we shoot 32% and allow 63% overall and 54% from 3 to the Spiders, falling behind 49-26 at the break. We score 45 in the second, but UR gets another 46. Tre 18 points on 7-18 shooting. Pierre quiet again, 6 pts on 2-8. |
3/4 | at La Salle | W 75-64 | Tre Mitchell (24) | Tre Mitchell (9) | 14-16 | 8-9 | – | – | Tre notches his 10th 20+ point game of the season, and sets a new UM freshman record in field goals in a season. East gets the start and responds with 18/3/8 and a clutch 9-10 from the line. Santos adds 13 & 3, Keon 8 & 5. |
3/7 | Rhode Island | L 64-63 | Tre Mitchell (34) | Tre Mitchell (12) | 14-17 | 8-10 | – | – | UM claws back from 17-point first half and 14-point second half deficits, on the back of yet another career game from Tre, but it falls apart on a questionable call in the final seconds. East adds 12/2/7, but no other Minuteman hits more than 1 FG. |
