This is great news! We are very fortunate to get someone of Whip's quality to lead our program.
It's now time for students, alumni, fans and supporters to commit to bringing UMass up to FBS level by attending games and donating to the athletic department. I would love nothing more than to hear at some point before Aug.30th that the McGuirk portion of the schedule is sold out for the season.
Note to the Administration and Athletic Department, let these last two years be a lesson that when you endeavor to make a big move like going to the FBS to either go all in or don't go at all. A quality educational institution such as UMass should NEVER cheap it's way out on anything or cut corners.

I have been a supporter of CM and really think he got a raw deal in this whole thing. He had people calling for him to be fired almost from the start and was never given a chance to succeed. I also think the petition was an embarrassment to the university and the ends do not justify the means. However, it was clear by the end of the season that his players had given up on him and once that happens it is time to move on.
Having said all that, Whipple is the perfect guy for the job. He always has been. They should have moved heaven and earth to get him the first time around, but what matters now is that he's the guy. I just hope that everyone's expectations are realistic. We probably will not beat BC to open the season and will not average 25,000 fans this year (that will always be tough to do playing three games in a 17k seat stadium). We may only win a few games, but Whipple deserves an opurtunity to bring in his recruits and implement his schemes. This is a very exciting hire and I expect big things soon, just probably not as soon as some are going to unrealistically expect.

Winning a few games in 2014 would be a productive season. A "few" wins might even be categorized as lofty expectations.Bueno97 wrote:I have been a supporter of CM and really think he got a raw deal in this whole thing. This is wonderful news and now we have to have realistic expectations. As for probably not beating BC to start the season, we probably won't....but can we just play with intensity and not have to burn 2 timeouts in the first series? I'd be ok with 3 wins and already have the motto ready:
"Wins will triple with Mark Whipple!"
ok, ok, I'll just stick to the photos.

Isn't McGuirk now going to fit 22-25K?Bueno97 wrote:I have been a supporter of CM and really think he got a raw deal in this whole thing.
