Re: KAEO Bruce Brown (2016)
IU just dismissed a guard from the team.
On the one hand Indiana now has one fewer guard in the way of Bruce Brown. On the other it is yet another indication that Indiana is kind of a dumpster fire.
Will it help or hurt their chances with Brown? We shall see...

According to the article Holt is a forward, not a guard

When it was first online it said 'guard.' The permalink still says 'guard.' LOL.
Well, maybe it means less than originally thought.

Re: KAEO Bruce Brown (2016)
IU dismissed Emmitt Holt, who is a PF. Holt graduated in the class of 2014 from HS in NY and was all set to take a post-grad year at Vermont Academy (the same Vermont Academy that Bruce Brown is at). IU was in desperate need to fill some spots and convinced Holt to join them in his original 2014 class. UMass had actually expressed some interest in Holt as a member of the c/o 2015 before he went to IU. Holt's dismissal seems like a knee-jerk overreaction and like IU is making an example out of him. The punishment doesn't fit the crime.rsox1221 wrote:IU just dismissed a guard from the team.

^ That release reads like it should have been edited!! Weird! Went from a media release to a personal attack.

Re: KAEO Bruce Brown (2016)
If someone gets dismissed, do they have to sit out a year? If not, sign him up.
Re: KAEO Bruce Brown (2016)
^ I was wondering about that, I'm not sure what his options are. My guess is he'd have to sit a year, but he'd still have 3 years of eligibility left. I'm pretty sure they got rid of waivers to play immediately, so unless he goes JUCO he isn't playing this year. If waivers were still in place he could potentially claim that he was unjustly kicked off the team and play right away.
Re: KAEO Bruce Brown (2016)
Dismissed for possession of alcohol!?!? Tom Crean is genuinely psychotic. Honestly, how does a recruit see what just happened to Holt and want to go play for that guy?
Re: KAEO Bruce Brown (2016)
Actually I think Crean might be in the right here. Holt was driving drunk in last year's car accident that left another Indiana player injured. Yes, the official cause was pedestrian action, but if he couldn't lay off the alcohol after something like that he might not be someone you want as part of the team.Calmass9 wrote:Dismissed for possession of alcohol!?!? Re: KAEO Bruce Brown (2016)
Is that the same Vermont Academy that Trey went to???
Re: KAEO Bruce Brown (2016)
^ Yes, he did go to VT Academy, but I think he left there and finished somewhere else. Maybe I'm confusing him with someone else on the leaving part.
Re: KAEO Bruce Brown (2016)
Holt's BAC was .025% after the accident, he may have had as little as 1 or 2 drinks. The accident was not his fault at all, the other guy jumped in front of a moving car. This year he was cited for possession of alcohol... those do not warrant being kicked off the team. Holt is the sacrificial lamb here because people are pissed off that IU is underperforming and in the media for the wrong reasons (reasons which go beyond Holt's infractions).RhowdyRam wrote:Actually I think Crean might be in the right here. ^ Niles: this SI article a while back supports your theory! BTW I enjoy your NSR blog on recruiting.

Is it possible that there is much more to this than being made public whether it is this specific story or there are just other things that have gone on that are not out in then open? Umass has been known to underplay events publicly in the past. Cal was especially notorious for it with Mike Williams. Even DK did it with Jesse Morgan?
