I think the only difference is who pays for everything. If he's just driving out and staying with his folks at the Campus Center hotel and his parents give him some spending money to hang out with the team, he can have the same or better experience than a kid on an official visit.

Or am I missing something about the distinction between the two types of visits?
I think schools are prohibited from paying for anything on unofficial visits, but are allowed to pay for things like travel, accommodations, food and maybe some other stuff on official visits.

Long story short, I don't think it's not a big deal in this case since Brown is close and especially because he's visited campus several times already.

Indiana is a finalist for another highly rated guard, deciding tomorrow.

Part of the equation in official vs unofficial is that each S-A is allowed only 5 official visits. Unless he takes an official to Hawaii, it means there is another team in the mix!

It's going to be tough to top Indiana on Homecoming Weekend. I expect them to roll out the red carpet in full force for BB.

Surprised he's not visiting Purdue while he's in the state of Indiana. They seem to be the dark horse here, I do not believe they will be a factor.

From an Indiana recruting site:
"Notes: In October 2014, the Hoosiers chose to offer Brown, a point guard, a scholarship offer as a potential replacement for Yogi Ferrell. With Chuck Martin as his lead recruiter, Brown told Inside the Hall in the spring he talks with the Hoosiers’ coaching staff every day. He’s expected to begin taking official visits later this fall."

However, they are in the mix for this guy:
"Rawle Alkins
Guard, 6-5, 210-pounds, Word of God (N.C.), NY Rens
247Composite: 5-star (15); ESPN: 5-star (15); Rivals: 5-star (9); Scout: 5-star (20)
Schools: Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, North Carolina State, St. John’s, UNLV
Twitter: Iam_RawleAlkins

Notes: After Indiana offered Alkins in June 2014, the Hoosiers have made the New York native one of their top priorities in the 2016 class. Alkins has said on multiple occasions the Hoosiers are recruiting him the hardest, and he has a previous visit to Indiana under his belt for Hoosier Hysteria in 2014. He also was high school teammates with IU walk-on Jordan Fuchs. Alkins will not decide until the spring."

So if Bruce is waiting for the other shoe to drop, then he (and we) will have to wait for spring.

^ I don't know what position IU is recruiting Brown to play, maybe SG, maybe PG. I would be kind of surprised if Brown waited until the Spring to make a decision. Seems to me like he's headed towards a decision in time for the early signing period. If not, I don't think he'd have basically narrowed it down to a final 4 and have two official visits scheduled for October.

Meanwhile, what's happened to Miami? They just lost Bryce Aiken(top 100) to Harvard! Miami also lost Eddie Ekiyor(4 *'s) to Xavier Tuesday. They must be very frustrated!

Jerry Meyer just changed his prediction for Bruce Brown from UMass to Indiana on 247 Sports. Only Corey Evans thinks Brown will go to UMass now. I'm a little worried that Brown might commit to IU after his visit this weekend.

I'd like to see some non alum and other "acceptable" individuals tweet at BB. Getting BB will change the dynamic of this program when combined with the guys that have now committed.

^ I don't think Brown is as into social media and attention from fans as Jarreau & Gresham are, so in this case I think that's mostly a waste of time. Brown has to know full well that he's been DK's #1 target for well over a year now. Now it's just a matter of seeing where the chips fall.

Bruce is in a tough situation, because if he chooses Indiana and then this guy does, too, it's gonna impact his playing time significantly. But this guy isn't deciding till the spring, and the competition is intense.

I'd be surprised if Brown signs with us since we have Mclean, Jarreau, and Lewis coming in 2016. Add Pipkins, who may or not play this year, plus Clark and CJ, and we seem to be loaded with guards for 2016. Maybe get another Big?

I think he's better than them all, if everything written about him is true, so I don't think pt would be an issue
