Just can't hit a shot. 1 make this half.

Virginia is just too good defensively and smart on offense. Hasn’t helped that we’ve missed good looks, bad looks, really any kind of looks but they are really good on that end and so goddamned disciplined. Starting doubling Tre and no one stepped up. Then run some high pick and roll to get their offense going enough so that things got away from us.
Still playing hard just not playing well. We controlled the game for about five minutes. The rest of the time it was Virginia.

I see this loss more on our putrid FG% in the second half rather than UVA’s defense. Our shots were high percentage shots, we were just ice cold.

UVA indisputably has a good defense but UMass has countered it pretty well with the exception of missing open shots. I can't remember the last time I was optimistic about a UMass team after a double-digit defeat where the team couldn't even score 50. This team is going to be good but it will take time.

Love the effort today. Virginia is just too long and too good defensively. They play such great fundamental ball on both sides of the court.

Glad to see Sy back, but it'll take some time to get him integrated.
Thought Carl forced some bad shots. Also didn't really understand the substitution patterns.
Can't take too much away from this game, anyway. Looking forward to St. John's/AZ St.

Team showed well but I'm sure they feel as tho they didn't play particularly well and could have stole this. Looking forward to watching this team all year. This team has that feel of the early 90's teams where you can see the potential and talent of the roster. Good days ahead boys & girls

Eh we certainly missed some good looks but I don’t think we got a ton of them. To me that’s good defense. We also had stretches of bad shot selection — especially in that first half. Whether that’s bad offense or good defense (because they get you to want to take those shots), I don’t know. I just think Virginia grinds you down and you have to execute and shoot well to beat them. We did neither.thecaptain wrote: Sat Nov 23, 2019 1:42 pm I see this loss more on our putrid FG% in the second half rather than UVA’s defense. I do think if East hit that layup early in the second to cut the lead to three maybe things would have been different. But I’m probably wrong.
I don’t think anybody played particularly well — outside of that first half stretch going into the half — so that’s encouraging that we at least hung around (even if we weren’t going to win).
Not sure UVA is explosive enough on offense to repeat but I can see why they are consistently very good.

Well we knew they needed a big day from behind the arc for a win and that didn’t happen. Hopefully Carl and TJ can carry some of those end of game makes into tomorrow.
They looked a lot better on the boards and FT shooting, which is very promising for the rest of the year. Sy didn’t have a good game but the effort was there and adding him to the rotation is going to help. Hopefully they can go .500 the rest of OOC and make some noise in league play. I think they win tomorrow.

I think they put in a tremendous effort and I feel like they will continue to mature, particularly over this stretch of tough games, then hopefully we can pick off a few wins. We definitely have an interesting team this year, a relief.

i said earlier, win or lose this would be a learning experience for the guys. hard to really see what lessons they take away here when so much of this loss is attributed to shots not falling and some poor decisions. losing to the #7 team in the country is nothing to be upset over. in fact, i bet they come out tomorrow and play even better against AZ State and get a win. as everyone has said, this team is fun to watch and has some real potential.

We may be playing ASU tomorrow. SJU has a half time lead.

Surprised to see Kolton back in there so quickly.
