Re: KAEO: Noah Fernandes
I’ve been a diehard fan of UMass Athletics predating the Coach Cal era…. have seen and experienced a lot of ups and downs in that time…. mostly downs in the last several years, not only in the basketball program, but in one of the other major sports played in the stadium as well. My mindset before every season and every game, is to put the best team possible out on the court or field, under the proper guidance of the coaching staffs, athletic department, and those that oversee the entire operation to compete at the highest level with a Refuse to Lose attitude and approach. I remember Coach Martin echoing similar sentiments before the season at the Court Club open practice… “when you walk out of the Mullins Center, you will never feel cheated”; speaking for myself, there were many times this year, and to be fair, several preceding years, where I did walk out shaking my head in disappointment.
I do not confine the disappointments and shortcomings solely to the teams, coaches, or other factors, but also to the entire athletic dept and over-site there in. Attendance, media coverage, communication, community ( and especially student) support has been lacking….. to put it mildly ….. and we’re not just talking about this season…. It’s been going on for years! As far as this issue with Noah is concerned, we (as Court Club members), were led to believe his return was imminent, and were never told this could be a season ending injury early on…. only at the end after things dragged on for weeks. I don’t know for certain what the status of the injury or any other factors may have been, and in my mind, that is the problem…we were treated as if we didn’t matter as far as accurate information was concerned, and I don’t recall anyone publicly asking the player himself what the nature of the injury and any other factor for a return was.
Remember, people bought tickets ( well, a few did), contributed to the Court Club and Nil with the expectation that the best team would be put forth to compete to try and win every game they played…. I’m not sure if this was the case concerning this particular player, and I certainly took exception to some of the starting lineups and player rotations throughout the season as well. Is it just a coincidence that Noah stopped playing after the Lasalle game? Things didn’t end well in that one, and the coach’s remarks after the game didn’t include any mention of a timeout (don’t know if they had one), although he did mention they had a good play drawn up with several options that were open as Noah got bottled up in a double team at the end. To be fair, Noah won more games for this team than those they may have ended differently, but the problem is, we don’t really know what the true sentiments were?
I think all of this stuff gets compounded by the mounting disappointments and failures dating back several years now, at least in 2 of the 3 major revenue and front porch sports here. I was very supportive of the Frank Martin hire at the time, and I hold out hope that things will progress next year. It has to be a team effort within the entire dept to improve attendance and home court environment for the players and fans, as well as clear communication and over site to bring athletics up to a higher level consistent with a Flagship University so well accomplished and regarded in other areas.

^ The UMass athletic department has outgrown its athletic director, Ryan Bamford and needs a leader. The AD had reached its ceiling with RB and time for a change! His tenure will go down as the worst in regards to football and men's hoops in modern times. He's fired Whip, Bell, DK, McCall and the teams still stink!
He's lost the students and starting to lose the die hards. Time to cut the losses now and move on from RB!

The list of schools that have reportedly reached out to Noah is interesting to say the least.
Richmond, Butler, NC State, Texas A&M, ODU, Boston College, Penn St, Dayton, K-State, URI, Ole Miss, Mississippi St.

Are we on the same page that the interesting part is that 3 of these schools are in the A10?? URI, Dayton, Richmond. I mean, imagine Noah facing UMass next season? I would have to boo him.NilesGold wrote: Fri Mar 17, 2023 5:30 pm The list of schools that have reportedly reached out to Noah is interesting to say the least.

Re: KAEO: Noah Fernandes
My hunch is BC would be attractive to him, coming from Mass.

If he goes to another A10 school can we drop the whole "Mr Massachusetts " thing??
Re: KAEO: Noah Fernandes
Yes. But can he keep it if he goes to BC?TheInsider wrote: Sat Mar 18, 2023 5:31 am If he goes to another A10 school can we drop the whole "Mr Massachusetts " thing??
Retarded artistically. Idiotic in other respects.

I thought that title belonged to Carl Pierre?
Re: KAEO: Noah Fernandes
such an award might not mean much, but many years ago I was hiring for an entry level and got a resume from a recent grad with a "Mr. Hustle" basketball award listed. He was hired based on the interview, grades and the usual but that award helped him get the interview. Most of those entry level resumes didn't have much, typically only a couple summer jobs.MikeUMA wrote: Thu Mar 16, 2023 11:41 pm The team used to give out awards after the season, even in years when they weren't good. Was a little nice recognition, but ultimately didn't mean a lot.

There are a lot of teams on this list that I DON'T want to see Noah on next year.

Re: KAEO: Noah Fernandes
Noah is (was) the #1 on this team. If he's not going to level up to a P5, then that tells me he just doesn't want to play for Frank.
Rhody - the only positive is it gets him closer to home, which he might want with a new baby
Richmond - not much of a step up
Dayton - a little step up, if they might have enough to get a bid
Old Dominion - why??
Boston College - that would be tough for us to take.

Keep in mind that Dayton is primarily a commuter school.
UD Arena not a campus site
But sellouts, avid, nice fans, who like their beer at games.

Re: KAEO: Noah Fernandes
I loved watching Noah here but I will have no choice but to hate him with a passion if he plays for BC
Re: KAEO: Noah Fernandes
Frank is good friends with Buzz at A&M
