I'd bet they are still open to another game.

Is it better to schedule against a D3 team, or just leave the date open and not max the number of games you play?

La Salle chose to schedule a D3 team, Rosemont College (just outside of Philly) for 12/21.

That's a really good question.

One thing is that it adds a game to a season ticket package and could bring in some money but it could also incur costs if there is a changeover from Hockey.

I think this team need more games, and I'd like to see them get even more court time than the PR trip gave us by scheduling another game before Harvard. If that is a D3, so be it.

My proposed solution would be to try to get AIC to play us during the season, at least it would be a D2 game. If not them, perhaps another D2 or a D3 from a competitive conference.

Pretty sure Frank will find a local D1 team for a closed scrimmage - BU, HC, NU, etc.. The exhibition is likely shaping up to be D3 or D2.

IDK, we have done wacky stuff like Globetrotter Game in Springfield in the past. Canadian teams used to come. Maybe that's an option.

With so many freshmen and so few players who have played D1 games on the same team before, I think we should play as many games as possible.

I see that Dayton has annual exhibition vs Ohio State. Why can't we get some gig like that with BC? Don't want to do it for real, at least we could see it as a practice game. Will never happen here. Rhetorical question. Lol.

I don't like closed scrimmages, because we can't see them. But if we are scraping for a D3 regular season game, we need some way of getting players practice time vs D1 competition.

In short, yes we should play anyone we can and fill the schedule.

How would playing a D2 or a D3 team help UMass? The won’t get better playing down.

If they’re going to schedule another game, it should be against the best opponent available.

Maybe as far as conditioning, running an offense, getting a look at a player who didn't get much court time in PR, getting video to pick up on bad habits or correctable issues, getting shooters some confidence, getting Majok time and experience, selling some pizza, give freshmen on the band some additional practice, making Dr. J happy and why not?

I hear you. I just like more games. There are good players in D2 and 3 but those games are almost always a joke. But everyone else is doing it and it gives the fans a chance to see the walk-on players and guys that don't see the floor much. That can be fun. It gives a small school a chance to play at the Mullins Center.

I'd love an annual exhibition against Amherst College.

Availability and willingness. It's a tough nut to crack.

Agreed, but UMass should aim high, IMO.

Exactly my thoughts. Nobody wants to take risk OOC. Few openings still exist with willing D1 opponents. We will surely find one for a closed scrimmage but thats it.

Best available opponent is a D2 or D3 game at this point, most likely.

That's why I was up for it. Some schools do multiple games like that.

Young team needs to play games. We will still watch.

The hockey team is scheduled to play the University of Alaska-Anchorage at the Bill on the same day the hoopsters are scheduled to play UMass-Lowell.

Day-night doubleheader perhaps? How much time is needed to convert the place from hockey to hoops?

Feb 3 also looks like a double header. Hoops vs George Mason and hockey vs Maine. More to come with women, perhaps.

Just found that one too. Good point re: the women’s schedule.

Isn't it quicker to go from hoops to hockey? It takes time to lay the BB court down properly, but it seems quicker to take it up. So maybe BB in the afternoon and hockey at night.

Also hockey plays the night before making noon or 1pm game on Saturday unlikely. Too short of a turnaround.

Has the Bill ever had a hockey / basketball DH with hockey first?
They're playing MACsketball. We love that MACsketball.
