Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
All right, Amadou, welcome to UMass!
We're definitely a big team this year. Our guards are going to have to improve, specifically Jaylen and Marqui, and hopefully Nate G is as advertised.

Wow! You guys wanted big men and we sure as hell got them!
Frank Martin kept discussing during the NCAA Tournament how the best teams all play through their big men. So, we clearly know what his priorities are when building the structure of the team.

He also mentioned on a couple of occasions that we weren't athletic enough. I think he was probably referring to rim protection and rebounding. Well, we got 3 athletic bigs and Rivera, who is super athletic. If we can solve our PG backup situation, I'm feeling pretty good about this year's team.inthescoop wrote: Wed May 15, 2024 3:24 pm Wow! Maybe Jaylen will not start and is currently looked at as a backup PG/6th man?69MG wrote: Wed May 15, 2024 3:40 pmHe also mentioned on a couple of occasions that we weren't athletic enough. Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
Does anyone know for sure how many years each of our 3 transfers have left? I think Malek only has 1 and maybe that's why they went with Doumbia. But I really can't say I'm sure on any of them.

I would be pretty to very sure Jaeden, Jaylen, and Rashool will start and probably each play 30 minutes or more

^ I doubt in today's NIL/Portal world that anyone looks to seriously after the year coming up!

^ gotta hope tho if there's a strong core of guys who have the potential to be a special team and make a good tourney run, that they may want to stay together and see it thru. I'm sure on all the good teams UMass has had, the guys still are fairly close. Can't place a value on that

Retention next year will be key as only Rahsool graduates.Floyd wrote: Thu May 16, 2024 3:34 pm ^ gotta hope tho if there's a strong core of guys who have the potential to be a special team and make a good tourney run, that they may want to stay together and see it thru. ^ not only that, but we'll be making the switch to the MAC. I'm sure that will play a part in the players decisions.
