Awesome article...great read: I'll say this: $25,000,000 investment in the stadium is not totally peanuts. also, the article did point out that NO athletic director or chancellor will ever advocate or tolerate a down grade in anything. its not in their DNA. that may be the saving grace here. And the move full time to the MAC may also be a saving grace. It will take YEARS of not winning a single game before they boot us. WBB is doing well and MBB is 3-3. And probably the most encouraging is the fact that applications are up 32% since the move up and this is in a time of declining enrollments in the US in general.

I do have to agree.........10 years is an awfully long time to be an AD with a pretty piss poor record in all sports except for a hockey natty in 2021. Of course, the main point here is: who in their right mind would HIRE Bamford after his track record here at the Zoo????

I don't know the next card out of the shoe or the dealer's hole card BUT: I think UMass wins a game or 2 next year. We may never go to a bowl but as long as we are FBS we are going to get an NIL Portal guy who wants to prove himself just like KLA. KLA was riding the pine at Rutgers and single handedly won the Army game for us in 2023.

FIRST in bold: Who cares, that is not our problem. And he has taken enough money from this state in the last 10 years where he really oen;t need another job.... Fuck... JUST FUCK!
SECOND: There is no way you can correlate that increase in applications to football other than it is over the same period of time. Unless you ask the applicant's why they are applying there is only an anecdotal coincidence at best. It may be more accurate to say that applications are up 32% DESPITE fielding the worst FBS program in the entire country in that same period of time.

As mentioned umass is not gonna be a place good talent wants to come to. The damage is done. We will be in the never ending cycle of 3rd string wannabes

Tyler Bell.. the QB they were so proud to land flipped to Delaware. They need to overspend next year. Get people that can block and tackle... hell, find a top 10 FCS team and give the 22 starters 4 million to transfer.

Never felt lower and the freshmen QB flipping to Delaware. We need to build better lines. I did not know how deep the hole can go or if we will dig ourselves out. But afraid it will be difficult building if we do not have recruits coming here. 0-12 makes it extremely difficult. Seeing Pedro and other freshmen playing and selling playing time is a positive. Like to hope for better times, but it's not good enough. Will wait for the class to form, transfer portal and will be interesting to see major changes. Hiring Thorr is only the first step in admitted football has been mishandled and a directions shift is needed. It is not on hiring more administrators in my humble opinion, but workers, who recruit and know how to compensate players with NIL. Like to know how much the football coach has a say in the NIL or an administrator that has been invisible and unaccountable. What matrixes is he measured, how does he do contracts. Larger payout after the portal closes etc. How do they decide where the money goes, OL, DL, QB, WR DB etc. More unknowns than knows and that is an issue. Last year's NIL basketball and this year NIL actions on players have been severely unsatisfactory.
Be proud of the present and look to the future.

well a very sad ending to a very sad program that has never gained any foothold at this level. We are the worst program and unsure how you can fix it
No one wants to come here and we dont have enough NIL to fix the issue. We are going to be relegated to the 3rd string cast offs. NO easy off ramp. Umass is the pariah of college football. FBS football is sad overall in the North East. uconn only one that had a good season. BC 1-10, Syracuse 3-8 Rutgers 5-6. is this what we want? all of these teams have had marginal records over the last decade. College football in the Northeast doesnt get the support it needs like the midwest or south. Anybody decent on this team is gone as soon as the portal opens. Our sports are so disconnected now due to the portal. Hard times ahead.

I need to ammend my comment on the bowling green thread.
All we need to be worried about is how we will be screwed out of the 12th seed in 2029 (previously said 2028).

Think you are over reacting about how you think recruits think. Some love football and rather play than sit on the bench and practice squads for 1, 2 years etc. While watching the game saw some stuff about teams going without any wins to being undefeated. Unless you are a physic and know what will happen, let's see how many recruits we sign. On National Signing Day, we had 3 recruits and behind the eight ball with 46 players already in the portal. Then add the fact the
NCAA increased the scholarship limits from 85 to 105, which meant there was over 2,700 more openings and a weaker pool than normal to recruit.
Be proud of the present and look to the future.

What FBS team has ever gone from winless to undefeated and in what time frame has it happened?
UMass Football: 22-3 at home when I was a student.
