EKU gets new coach
EKU gets new coach
Just thought I'd let you guys know that EKU announced the hiring of a new basketball coach today. Jeff Neubauer, the head assistant at West Virginia this past season will take the job. He said at the press conference that he saw where EKU took 550 three point attempts last year while West Virginia attempted 830. All the guards at EKU seemed to like that stat. Just thought I would let my new northern friends know that we DO have a coach now and we are all happy with it. GO COLONELS and MINUTEMEN!

EKU-Florida game is off
Eastern Kentucky University fans won't get to see the Colonels play Florida in McBrayer Arena next season after all. Eastern coach Jeff Neubauer said that the Gators have exercised a buyout and pulled out of the game, which had been set up by former coach Travis Ford -- who played under Florida coach Billy Donovan when Donovan was an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky.
When Ford left Eastern for Massachusetts in March, Florida no longer was interested in coming to Eastern. Neubauer, who was hired from West Virginia's staff to replace Ford, said scheduling changes like this are not uncommon.
"It's something that happens in college basketball," he said. "EKU did go down to Florida the past couple of years. But this happens, especially when there is a coaching change."
Eastern will be participating in the 2005 Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands. The field also will include Wisconsin, Georgia, Fordham, Old Dominion and Norfolk State. The match-ups have not been set, but the Colonels are guaranteed three games.
"It was scheduled before I got the job," Neubauer said. "I'm very familiar with it. It's a big-time tournament.
"It's funny. My wife had been trying to convince me to take our West Virginia team to the Paradise Jam, because she has a friend that's going to be down there with the Georgia team. That was the kicker I could throw in at the end when I told her I wanted the Eastern Kentucky job."

I don't see why it is a douchebag move. Donovan made a deal when Ford was the coach. It's logical that he only made it because Ford was the coach. Now that Ford is not the coach, he backs out of it which from what was said, it appears there was a provision in the deal to allow for this.
Posters have wanted UMASS to play Drexel. Would everyone still want us to play Drexel if Bruiser left - probably not and we would not make big money off of that game if he were not there either.
Now, Florida can add another game and possibly bring more $$$ to the school. If they add UMASS, everyone will be posting how great it is.
I just don't see why we have to condemn everyone so quickly.
And by the way. I know I'm a douchebag already. So don't bother reiterating it.

It is a douchebag move to jump from a scheduled game just because the coach left. If Florida schedules us home and home, I'll be very happy but I'll still think it's a douchebag move by Donovan to bail. Think about it, if Bruiser had the chance to schedule Cal and Memphis and then Bru left and Cal bailed, we'd call it a douchebag move. It's not just a douchebag move when it happens to us you know.
Agree it doesn't make alot of sense for Donovan to play the game now. He made the deal to help Ford and Ford is gone. But if EKU has already played IN Florida twice it appears only right that Florida fullfill their part of the deal and play at EKU. Even if the contract give Donovan in out EKU deserves a visit form Florida.TC @ DC wrote:I don't see why it is a douchebag move. Donovan made a deal when Ford was the coach. Using your example if Bru brings Drexel the Mullins twice and then leaves for a new job then yes UMASS should go to Dexel once anyway.
"This is my dream job''
Nale,
You are correct. Good call. I tracked down the Florida/EKU games, and Florida did host them each of the last two years - two blowouts. Given, that Florida was suppose to play at EKU this year, Florida should extend the courtesy of playing there. At a minimum, allow EKU the option of breaking the deal. As for your scenario with Bruiser leaving Drexel and Drexel owing us a game, I would hope that UMASS would opt to play Florida instead and play Bruiser's new team, e.g., Temple, as dictated by the league.
