Look let's not get a bunch of asses into a series of uproars. Sometimes people move on and it benefits all involved. I hope things work out for Ollie. Why get into a pissing blame game over it? The bottom line is that the coach changed and that usually means some player changes. It's not necessarily bad or good. It is just the way things go. Good Luck to Ollie-we hardly knew ya-now let's play ball!!!!

What was far worse, and what you completely overlook, is the injustice done to the young man by the previous coaching staff by bringing him to UMass at all, and then stealing an entire year of eligibility from him for less than 60 seconds of court time!!!!
There you go again CRR, constantly bemoaning the recent regime. OliLam played 55% more than what you state: 93 seconds all of last season. I mean seriously, isn't playing a minute and a half worth a year of NCAA eligibility?

Matty V reported the following today:
- Ford confirmed that Oli is out.
- Brower's dad confirmed that Etienne is going to UM.
- Brower will walk on, but sit under the transfer rules. He'll have 2 years to play, starting in 06-07.

this may be the best walk on we ever had, which is fine. if he eventually proves his talent and earns a ride, that's fine too but i would not be too excited if we had used a scholarship for a player of this level. we need big east /acc caliber, not BU caliber, players...
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Now that he is leaving, I can say what I've always believed. He was brought here on a gamble to help recruit Maurice Joseph, CCAA player of the year, a kid who also attended Champlain. Lappas lost that gamble when Joseph signed a LOI with Mich St.

Maybe Used to be will disabuse you of that notion. And blame Coach Ford for something in the process.

If that was true, LapDog played one too many gambles. That one & the one about his contract didn't pan out the way he would have liked. Tough tenure at UMass for Lappas, time to move on though, better things are ahead for UMass basketball

Thank you for the pointless post. If you read (which I know might be tough for you) I do not blame Ford for anything. What is happening to Ollie happens every year to a load of kids in college sports. A coach leaves and the new kid does not fit the system, and id either informed he will not play, or asked to leave. Either way it is patently unfair. The kid if he chooses to transfer has to sit out a year after already losing a year of eligibility for almost no reason.

My only critique of Ford would be that if he knew he was going to not use Ollie... and that Ollie would probably transfer, they should have sought a redshirt for the kid so he could get that year back.

If he knew the kid would probably transfer, that transfer year will count as his redshirt anyway, which would explain the lack of urgency on Coach Ford's part. You only have 5 to play 4, so as long as Ollie is transferring, a medical redshirt won't help him. (Maybe in an extreme case like with Jason White at Oklahoma, but those rarely happen. Can't remember one in basketball.)

Lappas is gone. Ollie is gone. Tony F'n Montana is gone. (Vox? IV?). We got a clean slate. Less than 3 months til the opening game I think. Can't happen soon enough.
Retarded artistically. Idiotic in other respects.

Brower looks like a high caliber player who was getting PT on a fairly well respected team.

I don't get it. Why is he coming to UMass?
