Take your argument to Frank, as unless I’m remembering wrong he’s the one who said in an article in the last 10 days or so that there was no one on the team who could create their own shot.

In Frank’s defense I think he meant no one could consistently create good shots, which is fair, anyone can “create” a bad shot. And are you going to argue with me that Diggins didn’t take a lot of shots?
Can't argue the fact that he took a lot of shots, but your best scorer should be taking the most shots. We know that he can score, but his scoring was not consistent. Diggins is a streak shooter - I think if he gets another season at UMass, he wants to maintain being the #1 option, and he will work on his consistency to take him to the next level.
Or does he want to work on being more of a role player, at a team like Villanova, which would be the role he would play for any team if he played internationally after his college days. He won't be a #1 option on a team in Europe. Practice being a role player now knowing that's your role when you pursue your international career. I hope he stays. Also, who knows, maybe the NCAA will waive his rights to play, and we won't have to worry if he stays or transfers.
Also, his first season at UMass, he only averaged 4.7ppg.. Diggins worked his way up. Respect

The article says, UMass will have $2 million to spend in NIL in 2025, with an increase to $3 million expected in 2026, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. This $ will somehow be split between FB and bball. Pending settlement approval.

I know that's is not what you were specifically asking, not sure how they divvy up the funds.

Thanks for the info, guys. Sounds like Akron and Kent are well positioned since Akron retained their entire team and the Senderoff extension at Kent seems like it included additional investments in NIL.

are you sure the $2 million is split between Football and Basketball? To me it seems like they are saying Basketball and Football will each get $2 million? It's definitely not clear, but thats how I read it.

$1 million does not seem like much for a Football roster of 60+ players. I understand not all players get $$ but I bet at least half do and that just doesn't seem like a lot.

Football rosters are 105.

I am not sure, now that I reread the article. I'm not sure if that 2 million is just for football. And basketball revenue sharing has its own separate number.

Should hear in the next week or 2. We absolutely want him back if so and it presents a opportunity similar to what we had with Cross last year, so we really need folks to step up so we can sieze the opportunity  https://buy.stripe.com/eVadRvbGS2dF1eU9CC
With all due respect, Diggins is a fine player, but he does not have nearly the positive impact of Matt Cross. If Diggins, Ndjigue and DHS are all once again starting and playing heavy minutes next season, why would the team be any better than it was this year? The team needs a major overhaul, per Frank: “We got to pass the ball better, we got to shoot the ball better, and we need a team that’s willing to talk." How is that happening if 3 (maybe 4 if Rivera is back) of the top minutes guys from this season come back? And if they're coming back to play limited minutes why allocate a lot of our limited resources to retaining them if we need to add players that will take a big chunk of their minutes?
Spot on take Niles. I too like Diggins but if you bring the same core back without any chance to allocate NIL money for new recruits or portal guys then should we really expect much improvement from how bad this team this past season? It doesn’t fix the fact that we are a dreadful shooting team.

I don't think any school uses all 105 scholarships. Most cap at 85-90 scholarships and might use a couple for walk ons

A lot of people think NIL is the cure to get better. Regardless of what the NIL money is, if you don't have a winning product you end up overpaying for average to better than average talent.

The new rules will not work that way. The revenue sharing, etc. is pretty much eliminating walk ons. Most teams had over 100 players but only 84 scholarship players. The new rules cal the total roster at 105 and essentially dictate all are scholarship players or entitled to receive money.

The email from Ryan Bamford stated 2M for football, but see what you mean about the article. The about 1 million was from Pat during an earlier Mass Collective zoom meeting. Actually made 2 of them this year.

We will find out if the NCAA House Settlement goes through on Monday or soon after. We also heard from Ryan Bamford, that the complete Athletic Vision will go out shortly after this settlement. He released the Football portion early for the portal window. Here is the email quote.
We have reorganized the financial models for our department and created additional revenue sources to invest in additional benefits across a number of UMass sports. The football program will have a budget for student-athlete financial aid and additional benefits of over $6.0M with at least $2.0M to use for NIL contract deals from July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026 (Fiscal Year ’26). The football NIL budget will grow by at least another $1.0M in FY ’27 to $3.0M. By comparison, members of our 2024 roster earned roughly $120,000 in NIL activities over the last six months. We anticipate MAC programs spending between $200,000 - $1.0M per year on additional benefits over the next two years. Our strategy is to outpace our peers by a wide margin in an area that can significantly impact winning.

can we please get rid of Bamford ! He has been a complete failure and you got to love his comment "Our strategy is to outpace our peers by a wide margin in an area that can significantly impact winning." so basically he is saying the best strategy to move our program forward is to spend more money than our competitors. How about hiring the right people to run the program, starting with his position ! lets not forget his other strategy , move into a lower conference where this is less talent. it is crazy that this guy still has a job at our university !

Is there a date by which Rahsool knows if he's got another year or not? Opportunities close quickly this time of year I'd think

I saw that he was in the pictures of the "team" volunteering this week. I say team loosely because it was only the 3 guys left and him. A good sign?
