Head Coach 2016: Micheletto out, Carvel in
Re: Head Coach 2016: Micheletto out, Carvel in
This is very special:
Greg Carvel @CoachCarvelUM
I’m fifty years old. Have never lived in the same place for more than seven years since the day I left my parents home at the age of seventeen. I think it is safe for me to start using the word “home” again.

If there were a "thumbs up" emoji I'd to a bunch of them. Great move.

The contract details are ridiculous and awesome... Carvel certainly has no reason to consider going anywhere else. I'm a bit shocked Bamford could get this approved, to be honest, considering everything the U just went through with furloughs and such with the pandemic.
Every 4 years he tacks on an extra $100k to his BASE... talk about job security, that's fantastic. I do think his buyout is a bit low and our buyout is a high based on the overall terms and comp, but that's the nature of the business. Those extra incentives for playoffs and awards he should make bank on as well.
Congrats Coach! Glad you've found your home with us!

Carvel on NHL coaching jobs during today’s Zoom:
“I have nightmares about once a month that I took an NHL job and I get to the NHL market and I can’t believe I left UMass. I’m like what were you thinking? Then I literally wake up and I’m like oh thank god, I’m still at UMass.”

Easily my favorite UMass coach of all-time, in any sport. Yes, even including my former teacher Mike Stone.
Carvel does things the right way all the time.
Represents UMass with such character and class.
And is always proof that - yes, good things can happen to us!
I always love reading how much he likes being the college coach in Amherst. He’s a guy that gets it.

That’s incredible! UMass is lucky to have a guy like this. He’s pretty much on pace for becoming our jack parker or Jerry York.Old Cage wrote: Wed Feb 19, 2025 9:45 pm Carvel on NHL coaching jobs during today’s Zoom:
