Not often you can be happy with a double digit loss, but as I was watching this one, I kept thinking, they could not really shoot much worse and yet..there we were, still in it. Just shoot the 3 ball at a decent clip today and this one turns out differently. I also love how this team even when they got down early, never looked like a) they quit or b) worried. They just stayed the course and made a run to get back in it. My other thought was this team is so young and you just stayed close with a top 10 team. There will be nights like this for sure as they grow up, but the future does appear to be bright at the moment.

There’s nothing wrong with this team that a little experience wouldn’t cure!
I said before the season that I was less interested in wins-losses than I was in how they played.
They may have lost but they played hard and they played together.
Go UMass!

They competed hard, nothing to hang their heads about. Showed they are a very good team that can compete at the highest level. If anything this game gave me more hope about this and future seasons. Thought we were a couple three's dropping and a couple bogus calls reversed (good for you getting the technical MM!) from hanging right with them.
This team can compete and is going to do great things over the next several years.

I think this game is a good sign of good things to come. Tre Mitchell impressed me more in second half with how he handled the double team. We also still kept the turnovers down.

I was on the road during the game. Sounds like they competed but the shots just didnt fall. We kept them to their 2nd lowest score of the year and kept turnovers down. Really great to have Sy back. Win today and it will be a very successful weekend.

Surprised to see Kolton back in there so quickly.
I was like ...
Give him the Steve Grogan play me with a broken neck award and Schilling's bloody sock.
I have never done anything so soon after any surgery, even oral surgery.

Thanks for the tip. Nothing like tuning into a tied game with 3 minutes to play. Instant adrenalin. Of course I was pulling for VA, especially to hold ASU to 45 points. Which they did.

Agreed, thinking about this game more, I'm even more optimistic. Sean East is going to get stronger and tougher in defending PnR action. Sy will become more comfortable out there.. If anyone listened to LaPhonso Ellis calling the game, he made some good points about the ball not swinging to the other side of the court on offense. We took some bad, contested threes as a result. The second half was much better in that regard, but we got going too late. We also had nice cutting from Samba when Trey was doubled, and we were finding the open shooter, after Tre got accustomed to the double. I think this was a really good learning experience for the team.
I feel a little better about rebounding now that Sy's back. My only other concern is defending strong, aggressive guards. Keon can do it, but we lose offense when he's running point. Kolton will also help. This is a great opportunity for Sean East to grow.

Interesting article on Virginia and their possible record-breaking defense.

Not last night. They allowed a season high 69 at Purdue, and only mustered 40. A lot of teams might be happy to only allow 69, but VA's defense wasn't its usual self last night.
https://www.cbssports.com/college-baske ... -beatdown/
VA's previous high allowed was 55 (to Vermont), and 2nd highest was our 46 point effort. So last night was an anomaly, so far, we'll see.

I don't know about after the UVA game, but as of today Clergeot is at .391 and Pierre is at .339.
