I just don’t think he was Frank’s type of player as some on here have said. Nothing personal. Frank stayed on him and even in the W against Fordham Frank made a comment postgame about how they won even with Cohen missing a bunch of layups. And I just think he wants more athleticism. He was very skilled offensively but the kid looked like he was sucking air too many times in the 2nd half of games and I don’t think that plays into Frank’s style.

^ Not so sure about that. I think Frank values rim protection and rebounding at that position. Cohen might've, in some ways, been an over-correction to our inability to finish in the paint a couple years ago.

I agree he's not a Frank type of player, but he's been exactly what we thought he was going to be when he committed to UMass. Last off-season Frank expressed a desire to get a big man he could run his offense through. Maybe after having gotten what he wanted, he's realized the pitfalls of sacrificing defense for offense?

As a college hoops fan in general this should be my favorite part of the season. Instead, the cycle of Umass hoops team mass exodus is playing out again. Kind of over this transfer portal thing. Bring back the mandatory sit out rule…. (Only exception being coach leaving for family hardship). Why get connected to a player if they’re gonna bounce after one year.

The NCAA tried to tighten up the transfer rules but the courts got involved. It's out of the NCAA's hands now, the lawyers are making that call.

I agree that I think Cohen kinda fell out of favor with Frank - not on the personal side - seems like he really liked him but as far as a player. Frank made a couple comments towards end of season and one in particular - I don't remember the exact question he was asked but he said something like - "hey, Josh is trying" I took that as he thought he was limited in what he could do. To me when you say - "he's trying" you realize he's not that athletic or that good and he can only do so much.

I don't know - it just seemed like a strange answer - in other interviews when asked about other players he use the word, beast or athletic or warrior.

If Cohen decided to leave for basketball reasons, he wouldn’t have initially said that he didn’t imagine leaving 48 hours before announcing portal entry.

He found out he could transfer again.. asked for more money to stay and "things didn't work out". Not that hard to figure out.
