Merry Christmas!!!! ha ha (I re-read the Sportico article..........you wouldn't believe how close UMass football came to being sent back to FCS by the faculty/senate votes). We have been lucky 3 successive chancellors have been supportive and finagled the votes.

Re: Ryan Bamford
how so???? I've been saying for a while now that he's got to move on. He obviously isn't going to just call it quits and find another job. He's been a disaster with the exception of the Hockey natty.

Men's hoop now 0-3 in the MAC, with two of those at home.
How long before Ryan stops sitting courtside for games? I wouldn't be at all surprised if he watched from his office up on the 3rd floor through the window overlooking the court.
Someone remind me: is he on contract? If so, what is the current end date?

Yes, he has a contract. My understanding is that it has an auto-renew clause with a year's notice required by the school if they intend to not renew it. So, technically speaking, there is no end date right now. Terminating it short of that notice period has a buyout of some sort, not sure of the details on that.
This is why I had speculated that the Thorr hire was part of an exit strategy... it is possible that the school worked out a deal with Bamford to move on over a period of time (I suggested it being completed by June 30th) at agreed upon terms outside of what the contract states.

Re: Ryan Bamford
The day that you hire the next AD, you also hand him the notice of termination for the evergreen clause so that the contract ends on the actual contract end date. Then you tell him, "Get to work if you want a second contract term".

Is he at least hearing it from the fans right now? He seems to be comfortableMikeUMA wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 12:55 am Men's hoop now 0-3 in the MAC, with two of those at home.

Re: Ryan Bamford
Tough to tell. He sits baseline at the games and spends some time shaking hands and yucking it up with people he knows. I don't hear anybody yelling his name or anything like that, so no I don't think he's hearing it from fans. He's definitely getting trashed on social media, but that's easy to tune out.inthescoop wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 1:34 am Is he at least hearing it from the fans right now? He seems to be comfortable
He spent most of the Bowling Green game with his head in his hands. It was pretty funny to watch his reactions/emotions as things were disintegrating.

This could get posted anywhere but this is as good a place as any.
Just terrible timing for UMass Athletics for the Herald to drop their UMass installment of "your tax dollars at work."
https://www.bostonherald.com/2026/01/03 ... s-at-work/
Sorry for the really big image but they're difficult to resize on the board.

Context: Michael Collins is chancellor of UMass Med in Worcester.
Brutal facts in that graphic:
Frank at over $2MM when we're 0-3 in a MAC that was supposedly a downgrade for us.
Football coach Joe at $1.4 when we had our first all-loss season since the 1800s.
Bamford at over $900k for running the train into the ditch.
Meehan at almost $900k for not seeming to give a F about the flagship's athletic situation.
Reyes at $731k for being Bamford's boss and not seeming to give a F about athletics' situation.
Don Brown for collecting over $700k to not be here anymore.
I kinda hate these "your tax dollars at work" pieces. I don't want my tax dollars to go to waste either, but these pieces require almost no journalism skills to put together, as they're all based on public record data. The outlets that publish these love 'em. They're red meat to anyone who already has an axe to grind about how tax dollars are spent, and that's a very wide audience.

Re: Ryan Bamford
Correct, this is usually just overblown BS. Public Higher Ed is usually the biggest salaries in almost all states, with Athletics being the top in most of those. With that said, the lack of success is what the problem is. And that starts at the top.
