Re: Ryan Bamford
Curry Hicks Sage did an impromptu Spaces last night, and this topic came up in the discussion. The creator spoke to it, not trying to selfishly draw attention to it, but it's the hot topic of the moment and was absolutely the right time to mention it.

As a point of reference, I had shared it in this thread back on 12/18. At the time it had a bit over 200 signatures. 258 as of today.
Still not a great showing and not something that will move the needle as it stands.

Those who want to see changes made just need to keep bringing it back up. I had no idea it was out there until last night.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 12:51 pm As a point of reference, I had shared it in this thread back on 12/18. I have a general rule on this board of trying to avoid repetition, but in this case I 100% endorse it.

Re: Ryan Bamford
I read that it is common for fans to reach out to the Board of Trustees for a change? Maybe we'll see something finally happen if we all reach out and email these folks regularly https://www.umassp.edu/bot enough is enough

Yes

Re: Ryan Bamford
That's it, I'm calling for it. I'm totally on the Fire Ryan Bamford train now.
This is staggeringly bad.
We're throwing good money after bad and I'm sick of it.
15% YoY increase in total athletics spend.
38% YoY increase in football spend, to be the worst program in FBS.
UMass, the Most Subsidized FBS Program, Got Even More Subsidized

Re: Just Lovely
This is the first and only time I will say this. Bamford needs to go. Reyes needs to show leadership. UMASS has become a laughingstock and someone need to correct this.
Re: Just Lovely
Not going to lose sleep over percentage changes. What I like to see in good reporting is how much student fees are compared to UConn and Boston College and the same for the football budgets. That said we have to endure this stuff until we start performing and everyone is tired of waiting.
That said, Tyler Martin a Massachusetts kid has been solid and extremely excited about the Springfield Central duo of QB 'Pop' Watson and WR Joe Griffin. I think of those two guys in the same vein and memory about Jim McCoy from 88-92 get Cals run going. Think the same positive vibes for Coach Joe H.

Be proud of the present and look to the future.
Re: Ryan Bamford
Give Bamford an extension! UMass just had the best weekend I can recall in a long time. 1 point wins for men's and women's basketball, a 1-0 hockey win (they can be ugly as long as you win) and finally a breather, 4-0 over VT. For good measure, both swimming and diving teams won as did tennis.
Re: Just Lovely
A quick search of all FBS football teams average operating budget in FY 2023 was $22.5 mil.
From the last paragraph of this hit piece: "Umass Football operating expenses was $15.9 million in FY25"
.....just a little perspective.

Yes. The real costs to the dept are the hoops teams. No revenue at all with the sparse crowds. My guess is operating coasts for men's hoops is close to 10 million.DeeDeeBee wrote: Mon Jan 26, 2026 12:08 pm A quick search of all FBS football teams average operating budget in FY 2023 was $22.5 mil.

Re: Just Lovely
84% subsidy is interesting, it's interesting that it's the largest subsidy in FBS.
But it doesn't feel particularly relevant so long as the subsidy is sustainable. Being on the scale of ~3% of campus revenues, and ~1% of system revenues, that does not feel like a meaningful concern.
The larger concern is what kind of on-field return are we getting for this budget. Pretty piss poor.
