2024 Recruiting
Re: 2024 Recruiting
I think Princeton and Iona are pretty good programs and regardless, I tend to put more stock in what people I trust have to say about kids than where they are ranked or who is recruiting him. And Kevin Sweeney, who works really hard and is pretty dialed in had this to say about Abdullahi:

Seems like the kind of kid you would want on your team and could win with (also seems like a Martin kind of player.) Thought he would be good for the program so I’m a little disappointed. Same with Cox.
At any rate, that kid that did commit does sound like he could be very good.

3 visits for Squire. I was hoping he could reclass to 2023 because we could use him this year.

Re: 2024 Recruiting
Originally committed to Virginia Tech. I hope that we can pick him up, could be a pleasant surprise. Do we have any information on why he ended up not going to Virginia Tech?
Re: 2024 Recruiting
^ Somehow, I found this on the VA Tech message board.
Excuse my ignorance, but how comfortable will he be in Amherst? Is there a decent sized Mormon population in the Amherst area?247 board (in April 2020) says he's committed but doing a 2-year mission
And will be a part of the 2023 class. This info is 16 months old, though.

Idk, but there's an LDS church right behind Southwest.69MG wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 7:04 pm ^ Somehow, I found this on the VA Tech message board.

^Never knew that!
Maybe a 2 year mission will actually benefit us this time. I remember it screwed us over with Jordan Laguerre.

Re: 2024 Recruiting
Can he enroll mid-year? Need the front court help.
Re: 2024 Recruiting
If he can transfer 12 credits with a GPA of at least 2.5, not counting any from summer school, he can play right away and is eligible for a scholarship. If not, the rules get complicated.
Re: 2024 Recruiting
^ It might be even more complicated than that. I saw 2 references that stated that college basketball has its own rule and you have to wait until next year to play. I'll admit I'm confused.
Scroll down to "Are there any transfer exceptions", and then down to #1 under "You will not be able to get an exception if".
https://playcollegebasketball.org/heres ... d1-school/If you plan on playing baseball or basketball (men’s or women’s) after your transfer, you may not transfer during the middle of the year from a two-year college and play that same year. And in men’s basketball, you may only use two credit hours of physical education courses to meet these requirements, unless you will major in physical education.

Looks like he has offers from Missouri, Wake Forest, Richmond, Towson, San Jose State, George Mason, URI, etc.NilesGold wrote: Fri Oct 27, 2023 7:42 am From yesterday...

Ranked 241 in the country by 247.
Here's a video against Overtime Elite (top talent right here): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmlOdGvnOFc
Overall, looks like he has a solid basketball IQ - has a big build and does not get off the ground high as others so he has learned to use his body well to create space. Has a solid shot and is a hybrid where he can play in the backcourt and frontcourt. I think that Frank Martin & team can get him into better shape and really allow this kid to bloom.
Re: 2024 Recruiting
^ I watched a couple of videos of Walker and your take is accurate. He needs to get in better shape and maybe get a little more athletic, but he's strong and can bang down low. He's a 2014 so he might even grow another inch or 2.
On the recruiting front, I hope we see a few bigs. Maybe Frank hits the transfer portal pretty hard for one or 2 bigs next year.
