We're not talking about trying underhanded shit to get out of the contract, we're talking about buying DK out. There's no reason we should have to "grin and bear it". This is literally the dumbest reason anyone has made as to why Kellogg should be retained past this season.
Well, truth be told, I'd like DK to pay UMass a few million for the shitty job he's done for the past few years and leave. But that's not happening.
Totally agree, AND not only is he the worst coach in the A10, but probably in all of D1. Look what Pastner, his understudy, has done at GATech.

^Lets not get too high on Pastner...he was pretty terrible at Memphis, they couldn't wait for him to go and were happy when he left.
Hire Matt McCall!

This buyout is a joke. Imagine the globe getting a hold of that (if they gave a hoot) to see the state could pay his buyout a state contract and then turn around and give the same amount to someone else for occupying the same position...simply laughable. Dk will be the coach until 2019.

We're currently doing it for women's basketball. It's not a joke, it's called D1 college sports, if you don't produce a winning team you get shown the door. Look at Jim Crews at STL made it to 2 straight NCAA tournaments and had 2 bad seasons after that and was fired. Kellogg made 1 NCAA and is now in his 3rd straight bad season so saying he should be fired isn't that crazy of a thought. He's a local alum running a below mediocre team and clearly doesn't give a shit that they suck. He has "total program reevaluations" and comes out of it with the same clowns on the bench and the same shitty product on the court that nosedive every year

The bonus is a bit different I would imagine. Dk is the highest paid state employee. Not the first time we have heard people bit h about it. You start talking buyout you're gonna have increased scrutinization from the folks who control the purse. The bueden of living in a state where nobody cares about college hoops (beside us)

There would be a PR shit storm if he is fired, just due to size of contract settlement, whatever the source of funding. In addition, despite the scrutiny he has gotten with this board, he has: a winning record, lost 7 games within 5 or so points. From the outside just looks like a team struggling with first year entrants.
We know differently, of course, especially in game management, and poor development of players over the years.
As to firing the women's coach - the money was much shorter, and that WBB record was worse.

^ I don't know the financials of the basketball program. I'd be very interested to know what the revenue/expenses look like and what kind of an impact the team's poor performance these last three years has had on it. If the poor performance has negatively impacted the financials in a meaningful way and the AD/school can make the case that firing Kellogg is in the best financial interests of the school and taxpayers, then I think your concerns are moot.

Except, other things are happening 'in the background' - the big one is overall MBB attendance, especially in the A10.
Where are we seeing sellouts/full arenas except in facilities that are 4k or less - like a Fordham?
MBB is now over-exposed via TV and internet streaming, my view. And unless a team is near Top 25, lots of empty seats. And that is a long term issue that erodes the 'only if we have a great coach and strong winning record' revenue streams hopes, of any AD..
I find it especially notable that the bball program has so little student attendance, while the undergrad. population has soared to over 23k on campus, versus the 18k of 10 years ago.

^ We just had over 4k attend a game against a middling opponent that no one cares about, while the team is in last place in the A10 and in the midst of a terrible season following 2 bad seasons.

What does "other compensation" mean exactly?
Edit - nevermind it's all in the link below

^ This is very exciting. If indeed UMass would only need $550k to buyout Kellogg, then I think we could be in business!!!

Did you really just point to your own post as if it was someone else's?
