Those people don't know a damn thing about Cal. What he cares about most is his players. Best Hall of Fame induction I've seen was him inviting any former player that could make it on stage with him.

^ I was looking for a reason to blow off work for 20 or 30 minutes. Thanks for that.

I was there the night he was inducted. I got a chance to talk with Cal at the end of the night He had just posed for pictures with the Padillas on the steps of Symphony Hall...laughing about how cool it was that UMass had an all-Latin backcourt (first in the country?)
I wanted remind him of a time back at the Cage in the ‘early’ days when he was nicer than he had to be to a bunch of kids when nobody was looking...including my two. It was a men/women men DH against the Bonnie’s. The men’s game was on ESPN. My kids made a poster that included the network’s letters to try to get on tv. In between games, the kids approached him as he walked across the court to ask for his autograph. Cal could have blown them off but he didn’t. Instead he said you don’t want my autograph come with me. He walked them over to the UMass locker room and told them to wait while he took the poster inside and had the entire team sign it.
We shook hands and thanked me for sharing that memory with him.
A sad note...as we left Moses Malone came over to our host for the evening, who works for the Hall, to give her a big hug and say good night. He passed away later that night and was found in his hotel room the next day.
