Looks like the guy got on offensive foul and a T on the same play.

Masslive article quotes his coach as saying he has been hitting the weights and has gained 18 pounds and is now 218. He wants to get to 235 and loves the weight room.

Sounds like he's morphing himself into a power forward, which is great for him, since there will be more PT to be had there, with Gaffney and Bonner graduating.

The article also says he sees himself as a 3 not a 4.

I saw that. But it looks like his coach is convincing him that he needs to be able to play as a power forward as well:
"I call him a face-up 4 (power forward)," said Winchendon coach Mike Byrnes, who played at UMass. "He's still learning what he does well."

Is that a nice way of saying he doesn't have the skills to be a 3? At 6'-8", that shouldn't be a surprise.

Here's the quote from that article that caught my eye:
"I want him to become the next Dana Dingle, to be hungry and defend and play with passion," said Byrnes, recalling a 1990s UMass star. "He can be a difference maker."
XL...FWIW, my take is that Byrnes is saying that he's still developing, and based on how that develpoment goes, his best postion is TBD.
"I want to get better at defense, work on my foot speed and most of all, get stronger," Carter said. "I love going into the weight room, and I'm starting to see results."

This kid seems to have his head on straight. Always love hard workers and people who do not assume they are ready. This class seems to get better every day! Go UMass!

Well, when you are in winchendon and there is over a foot of snow on the ground I can't think there is much else to do but throw some weights around.

I know Riley is the more touted recruit....but this kid reportedly had OFFERS from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Memphis. Safe to say we wouldn't be in the mix without the connection....
I hate getting fired up about recruits....but I can't help it....There is some good size/skill on the way to Amherst!!!

the problem is it seems we have a log jam at the 3... although when ricky is done i could see AG moving to the 2 for his last year so we can have size at the 3. the best thing is having palyers that can play a few positions.. means we can have a small line-up.. or we could go 6'4 Gibbs, 6'3gurley or 6'5 riley, 6'8 carter or 6'8 putney, 6'8 lynch, 6'9 carter or 6'10 bailey. Now who knows if some of these guys will be any good.. but thats a big athletic line-up

It seems kinda obvious to me that Gurley will spend more time at SG as these newcomers start playing. He IS a SG, not a SF. He's playing out of position now, and is undersized for SF. He's not particularly big for a SG.

The titles mean nothing.....it's about complementary skills and who you can guard.

Couldn't agree more. Give me two 6-8 athletes who can play and I'll find a spot for them. Very few college teams have a traditional 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 set-up set in stone. You adapt to your talent and matchups.
