I would not be surprised if we have seen the last of him in a Umass Uniform.

They cannot reveal his status of his injury because of privacy issues.

We got some good results in the games last night. Aside from Duquesne winning, St Bona (7-9), GW (7-9), and URI (6-9) all lost, so they join us in the 9-loss group along with Davidson. As miserable as its been, there's still plenty to play for.

This sucks as far as I'm concerned. I know some people aren't fond of Rivera, but I want all hands on deck for the last 3 games.

NEWS: UMass forward Daniel Rivera will miss the remainder of the regular season with an injury, Frank Martin says. Rivera is averaging 11.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

Good injury news, Jaylen Curry has been practicing this week and plans to play Saturday against URI.

It's brutal news on its own, worse when put in conjunction with Curry coming back. Rivera was continuing to improve and has been a key piece.

Had enough? Nope, keep piling on!

Akil Watson is also out with a banged up knee. Martin didn't specify for how long, but it sounded like he doesn't expect Watson to be available for the remainder of the regular season either.

The injury bug has hit UMass at the wrong time.

OK so I was wrong about my speculating that Curry might shut it down this season. Glad to hear that he's trying to get right and come back to action.

Good news on Curry, bad news on the others. Rivera has been hit or miss, but he goes full tilt at all times and his rebounding is best on the team. Akil and Foster are similar players, so hopefully Tarique can slide in and fill in for Akil. We can beat URI without Rivera. Players have to step up their physicality and make shots.

Rivera had a good stretch late in the non-conference and early in the conference season, but since then he seems to have regressed… I certainly wouldn’t say he’s continued to improve.

Juice Stand wrote: Wed Feb 26, 2025 10:56 am I am not accusing Jaylen Curry of faking anything, I want to be extremely clear of that.

If a player is taking themselves out of games with "discomfort" but all tests and imaging come back negative, and that player is getting paid by the collective, what can be done to claw back that money or pause disbursements to the player? Probably nothing. So if a player is having a great year on a bad team and gets contacted by other schools with lucrative offers, he can decide to sit out the rest of the year and claim discomfort.

Again, not accusing Jaylen of anything, just posing the hypothetical.
I read Cote's article on the injuries and thought it was important to post this piece of information:
Martin also mentioned that Curry had been begging to play despite the pain in his wrist. He asked the training staff for an injection in the injured hand so he could be out on the floor, but the doctors advised him otherwise because of where the pain was coming from.

Great to hear about Curry. I stand corrected about thinking he may have Noah'd us. My error.

It's amazing how drastic we can get on this board. Myself included, of course.

That's what we do, IV. It's the nature of being a fan. Also, having very little media coverage adds to the speculation. It's really nice when someone like Cote can meet with the coach on a regular basis and file a report so we don't have to speculate.

After seeing Cote's posts about Rivera and then Watson, I messaged him to take the rest of the day off as we didn't need any more news.
