Miami (Oh) Yeah ! wrote:In all likelihood, four schools are virtual locks to be invited: Dayton, Xavier, Saint Louis and Butler. The conference leaders want six eastern and six western — really, midwestern — schools. The eastern division of the league will consist of Georgetown, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Villanova, Providence and either Richmond (also a non-Catholic school) or Siena.
Siena or Richmod?!?
If you ask me, that new league is a step down basketball wise from what the Big East would've been if the C7 had stayed. Of course it's more stable, which was one of the main reasons they did it.

My feeling is if this happens VCU will not be far behind.

Obviously this would weaken the A10, but I believe it will pick up some decent schools to replace those leaving. Won't be as strong, but will still be a highly competitive league.

What decent schools east of the Mississippi are left to poach?

Stony Brook?
Holy Cross would be a natural rivalry for UMass anyway.
Raid the Colonial and grab George Mason?
I'm just making myself more depressed.

They have been listed before. Too lazy to look fo them. Bottom line for me though is this is really low on my list of things to worry about.

That's interesting news, to say the least...

The Big East that includes UConn or the C7? What is the Big East in this context?
This is the most enjoyable losing season ever!

It says "football and basketball", so I assume the UCONN side... or both NBC and ESPN and making a play to keep the conference together.

Recently, I was all for this move, but after today I am a little hessitent. There is a lot of talk on Twitter right now of UNC and at least one other ACC school leaving for the Big 10. If this happens Cinci and UConn are gone to the ACC and what is left of the Big East is Temple, Memphis and a bunch of other non-descript schools. This worries me a bit...but who knows.

What do you think the A10 is gonna be like after most of the top teams leave for the C7? Even without Cinci and UConn the nBE would be better than a depleted A10.

UNC splitting up with Duke? That would be shocking. Can you imagine the non stop ESPN ramblings on that.
I would still take the New Big East over whatever remains of the A10.
