If the rest of the team sticks around, I will be pleased and satisfied with McCall. Tre and Ronnie were two guys who didn't really want to be here and now they're not. If the transfers buy in, we could be pretty tough.

Yep, if this is it for defections, and I hope it is, I'll be pleasantly surprised McCall's kept the rest of the team together. If we can find one more guy to add an inside presence, I'll be optimistic about this coming season. I will say, though, all the talk about culture, being connected - it starts at the top - he's gotta create and maintain that.

I can't because I don't know what has changed. Ronnie wasn't going anywhere as of 2 weeks ago... so generally something has changed and I'm officially in the worried column.

If it was anybody besides Ronnie I think I would be more worried. He had his sights set on a higher level before settling for UMass and I'm sure TB played a big role in that. If he commits to a P6 school soon it makes a ton of sense why he bolted.

Not saying that I think we're in the clear but, to me, this isn't too surprising and maybe the change was interest from some schools that he didn't think/know was there a couple of weeks ago. But I have no sources and am just thinking out loud. Lol

The semester is ending. Could have to do with classes. I’m not suggesting he had academic issues. I know nothing about that. I just know the semester ends like next week, so it might be connected timing wise. It is a very early end to the semester.

It could also have to do with the tampering that has been reported. The list of schools that are interested in him is impressive. I’d jump ship to one of those P5 from UMass.

Yes. Tampering. Schools are not allowed to contact kids unless they are in the portal. There were a view articles, national, not specific to UMAss, where allegations of coaches or surrogates contacting players and getting them to enter the portal. If a kid had no intention of transferring and all of sudden hears from a P5 that they are interested, they might jump.

Just my opinion, this clearly hurts us from a front court depth perspective. Nothing else. I wasn't as high on Ronnie's game as some on here. He hit a couple of 3's, grabbed a couple of boards. But I thought he was very average at best on the defensive end, just like Tre was. You lived with it with Tre because he was an offensive freak, but Ronnie left a lot to be desired. Dragged his feet a ton from what I saw. Obviously he could improve in that area as time goes on as he was a frosh, playing significant minutes. But if you said we can only keep one, Garcia or DeGray. I'm taking Garcia 10 times out of 10.

I have no ill will towards him, and I wish him well wherever he goes. Seeing that list of schools means it's probably in his best interest to transfer out. So be it. I think the team will be OK. Provided this isn't the beginning of any more surprises.
