What FBS team has ever gone from winless to undefeated and in what time frame has it happened?
UCF went 0-12 in 2015 and then in 2017 went 12-0 regular season and 13-0 overall with a bowl win.
Longer distance between and tougher conference but University of Washington went 0-12 in 2008 and went 12-0 regular season in 2023 (14-1 overall losing in the national championship game).
Obviously UW has a lot more resources than we do and I assume UCF does too, but it has been done.

Kent St had 1 win in 2023, 0 wins in 2024, and got to 4 wins this year (one of those against us, of course) with an interim head coach. Kent St removed the interim tag and gave him the full head coach gig, but that is a team that had been pretty abysmal and found a way to get some wins.
If they can go 1-23 over two consecutive seasons, and then jump up to 4 wins, why can't we? I've been told many times by the administration that our NIL budget and resources are among the top of the MAC. This year sucked big time, but it doesn't mean we can't dig our way out of it.

well a very sad ending to a very sad program that has never gained any foothold at this level. We are the worst program and unsure how you can fix it
No one wants to come here and we dont have enough NIL to fix the issue. We are going to be relegated to the 3rd string cast offs. NO easy off ramp. Umass is the pariah of college football. FBS football is sad overall in the North East. uconn only one that had a good season. BC 1-10, Syracuse 3-8 Rutgers 5-6. is this what we want? all of these teams have had marginal records over the last decade. College football in the Northeast doesnt get the support it needs like the midwest or south. Anybody decent on this team is gone as soon as the portal opens. Our sports are so disconnected now due to the portal. Hard times ahead.
Think you are over reacting about how you think recruits think. Some love football and rather play than sit on the bench and practice squads for 1, 2 years etc. While watching the game saw some stuff about teams going without any wins to being undefeated. Unless you are a physic and know what will happen, let's see how many recruits we sign. On National Signing Day, we had 3 recruits and behind the eight ball with 46 players already in the portal. Then add the fact the
NCAA increased the scholarship limits from 85 to 105, which meant there was over 2,700 more openings and a weaker pool than normal to recruit.

There were a few but was not concentrating on that. Perhaps UCF in 2015 and undefeated in 2017. Should be easy enough to check but busy and moving on with my day.

I think we can all just agree that this team (and program) sucks.
Has Bamford been fired yet?

this is kind of my point. We recruit from the leftovers. Sure kids want to play and not be on the bench but thats typically the 3rd string guy. Maybe you get a diamond in the rough or maybe we get the problem players that the other teams dont want. i would want nothing more than to have success like our FCS years. i just think our horrendous start has given us a major black eye and the perception that we are a perpetual disfunctional bottom program. Add to the fact that FBS in the Northeast is poor as well . no loyalty from your players. hired guns ready to bounce for the bigger better deal.

Because he, unlike the FBS cultists who cite uconn as proof it can work at UMass, probably sees the ceiling at UConn.

Or, he wants to be in a power conference? I’d take 9 wins with players in consideration for national awards. That isn’t necessarily the ceiling for them. Being independent does make it harder to get to the playoff, though. 12 teams make the college playoff. That is less than 10% of all teams. With 11 of the 12 teams allocated to P4 teams or ND, bowl games are the goal. Going. Owning every year is an anomaly. Going 4/5 times is acceptable for any team. Mora has UConn going 3/4 and moving on.

New season technically starts December 1st. We know it really doesn't start until the Department leadership change happens. In the meantime, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Wow huge blow to UConn football
He essentially moved for the same salary as well… he simply wants to be closer to home. Sometimes it be like that.

Realize many do not listen to Coach Joe's press conference by the question that are asked here. Joe said there would be some positive surprises on signing day. One has come forward early.
Even with the 16 commitments not counting this one, believe this is only time since Whipple we have a class currently rated in the top 100.

It’s a much better job. Not shocked at all. Being an independent that isn’t ND isn’t really attractive to any coach.
