He also may be the first player to have a scholarship offer "heaped" on him.

Clergeot and Buggs splitting point guard duties is not what this team needs next season. It needs a real play maker point guard, not a score first, pass second point guard.

The fact that we are recruiting this kid tells me that the staff knows that another big is leaving - we can probably assume either KTM or JL. McCall wouldn’t spend our last scholarship on him otherwise. They know even more than we do how much we need a guard.

If someone else is leaving I think KTM would be best. No knock on him but with Baptiste and the incoming bigs I think we will do fine. I'd rather have the scoring, versatility and experience of JL. Proven to be able to knock down the 3 with decent size.

I think if both have been told they are coming off the bench next season, JL is gone. He seemed to kind of float around out there - especially after his injury. I like the talent more than KTM, but I think Laurent would have a harder time being a bench player - a role he's never really had to embrace - in his final year of eligibility. Turner-Morris has been in that role since he got here and he may be perfectly fine with that.

Doubt that he would assign starting roles already without a practice or anything similar. Starting positions are not earned on paper but by the work put in.

MM never talks about starting lineups. That's our job.

So I think we've been linked (via a variety of ways) now to the following players:

Guards:
Mika Adams-Woods (pg)
Joel Brown (pg)
Sean East (pg)
Noah Hutchins (pg)
Deuce Dean (pg)
Sean Miller-Moore (wing)

I haven't seen anything on Fernandes or other dudes other than speculation here on the board. The dudes listed we've been linked to via media reports, insider info or recent Twitter following habits.

Forwards/Bigs:
Chris Maidoh
Robert Carpenter (bigger wing)

Adams-Woods and Brown are supposed to be pretty good all around point guards and they've played against good competition so they might be the most ready to play. Getting one of them I think would be plan A (and when I say "think" I actually mean "hope" and when I say "hope" I am basing it on never having watched them play outside of a few highlights, so it is incredibly scientific.) Then if another scholarship does open up, maybe one of the other point guards or Maidoh would come on too. Haven't seen anything too recent on Hutchins, Dean, Miller-Moore, or Carpenter.

That's all I got.

If Twitter follows are any indication, UMass appears to be recruiting Joel Brown. Brown is a highly regarded 2019 PG from Canada who played at Brewster Academy the last two seasons.

Adams-Woods or Joel Brown would (on paper) be exceptional pickups, as they're both widely considered among the cream of the crop of PGs in the Northeast.

To your point, recruiting is fluid, and anyone we were linked to prior to our assistant coaching purge (Hutchins, Dean, Miller-Moore, Carpenter) there's a good chance we're no longer recruiting.

I think Brown is the dude that beat Woodstock on a last second shot in that season ending prep tourney.

He's also a lefty like Adams-Woods. I dig it.

Joel Brown would be an outstanding pickup, any indication he wants out of his LOI with Cal with the coaching change?

Canadian lefty I like it. Who was the Canadian poker playin guard that we had some years back from Canada that was flashy as heck? Forgot his name.

^ Kyle Wilson is probably who you are thinking of. I don't recall him being flashy and I don't recall him being very good.

Kyle Wilson was an inconsistent 3 point shooter with not much D.

You have to take best talent but I prefer not to have six true freshmen.
