We could open up a new hoops.com posters shop in Amherst and called it the

^ Ed, I can hardly imagine the limitless sign material you have for this year. Hinds to Hines, L'il Pip, Space Eater. OMG!!!

McLean wit it, Rock wit it...a reference to a great rap song by Dem Franchize Boyz.

Forget Chaz, D. Gordon was able to get to the rim plenty, and that was with the other team playing a sort of inverted box-and-1 against him. I have to believe that McLean is already a better shooter than Gordon, and he probably passed Gordon in raw athleticism in Middle School.

I was thinking along the same lines. DG with a better jump shot (how much better to be determined), quicker and with better hops. If he brings the defensive intensity that DG brought he will be a significant upgrade.

From a friend of mine who used to coach...

"I've seen him play a few times and he's a 6'0-6'1 ft. shooting guard who wants to be a point guard which isn't happening. He will win a lot of dunk contests he's ultra athletic but I think this was a stretch to take this commitment this early. If he was a knockdown shooter I would take the chance but he isn't. I saw Putnam play McDuffie is a fall game last yr. and Jon Garcia who is a very good defender but someone McClean should be able to dominate but couldn't. That to me is symbolic of his game , he had a couple of crowd pleasing plays but really did nothing while trying to be the point guard."

So Unique should skip going to 3 different college programs and should jump right to the NBA then?

Well let's hope they're expressly clear with him that he's going to be a 2 at UMass. Just brought in Pipkins and are going hard after guys like Jarreau. They don't need him to be any kind of 1. They should, and I stress 'should' be able to make him understand that. He'll be far more valuable as a 2 on this team anyway.

“I like to get up and down, be athletic, guard the ball and try to put points on the scoreboard,” said McLean, who added he’s a natural two-guard, but it working on improving his point guard skills. “I’m working on playing the point. I can definitely score the ball. I’m comfortable playing either one.”

Sounds like he knows what he is and what he needs to work on. If he was a knockdown shooter he'd be a top 50 recruit. Maybe McLean is doing what his coach asked him to do, which just might be playing the point. The descriptions of McLean are very much reminiscent of Weber, that worked out ok for VCU.

I have mixed feelings on McLean and I think there are other guys out there who are better, but I'm not about to criticize the UMass staff for taking his commitment this early, they have 4 more scholarship to work with and at worst, taking McLean is a gamble with a potential for a big payoff.

I think the kid has excellent form shooting the three and that is huge. I teach shooting and when I saw the video I was very pumped. If this kid works on his focus and refines his set up he will can be a big time player. He has a really smooth stroke with good mechanics that are very repeatable. McLean could be the best get in his class if he has the right work ethic and attitude because the skills he already has are not teachable. It is dependent on his coachabilty and dedication. I predict he and Lil have the ability to bring us deep into the Damce in a few years.

Do you have a scoop on Jefferson that we don't know about?
